There's nothing in your reading of the 14th that guarantees a right to gay marriage.
It's rather interesting, isn't it, that none of the cases used to push gay marriage relied on the US Constitution or the 14th amendment...
The case in MA relied solely on the Commonwealth's constitution, the cases in NJ and other states have all relied on the state constitutions, not the 14th Amendment.

Actually, it is sufficiently ambiguous that one could argue the point, but then again, successful argument is another matter, and politics does play a role in how liberally the amendment will be interpreted.
