Appearing for the supporters of Prop 8, Kenneth Starr, the former Whitewater prosecutor, said the people hold the right to modify the state constitution by adding or subtracting protections for civil rights.
Court appears ready to uphold Prop. 8

>>> Asking a minority that is at best 1 in 10 of the population to convince 9 of 10 they deserve equal rights is self serving and pandering to the majority, none of whom suffer the hurts, slights, and damage that comes with keeping discriminatory law intact.
The minority wants to change an institution that hold some import to the 90% (probably more)...so asking is much more pleasant than trying to take it by nefarious means.
>>> How would the right react of say... enough of us gathered in one state such that we banned heterosexual marriage? Advocate for legislative remedy? Hardly.
Why don't "enough of you" gather in one state to pass the law allowing gay marriage?
>>> You've lost me here. what do opportunities for women have to do with what's best for children and society?
In many cases, the "opportunities" women are availing themselves of, are harming their children and society.
Yup, the import all flows to the positive side of allowance, not to that of disallowance.
Society 50 years ago was almost completely homophobic. Since that time, progress has been made, but it takes time to shake out the indoctrination of people into homophobia.
One by one, people find their way to a different view on the subject, so much so that now, fifty years later, the shift is nothing less than astounding and wonderful, yet there is further to go.
That shift comes via the truth.

I understand, as I didn't
Hey, welcome back and good luck with resurrecting your computer (I'm hopeless at anything IT/tech)!
>>> Yup, the import all flows to the positive side of allowance, not to that of disallowance.
So far, the people seem more inclined toward "disallowance" regarding a change to their institutions.
>>> Society 50 years ago was almost completely homophobic. Since that time, progress has been made, but it takes time to shake out the indoctrination of people into homophobia.
I think you confuse finding a behavior unacceptable with being afraid of it.
>>> One by one, people find their way to a different view on the subject, so much so that now, fifty years later, the shift is nothing less than astounding and wonderful, yet there is further to go.
Just a wee bit further.
>>> That shift comes via the truth.
I think we're all aware of the truth. The change will come if you can convince people that it's in their interest to open the door to that slippery slope you run into when you want to redefine marriage.

Children of Divorce - Crime stats - What has this to do equal opportunity for women?
Working women more likely to seek divorce - This suggests to me that women without means of supporting themselves are stuck in bad mariages. Do you interpret it differently?
Careers And Marriage - A point counterpoint article, which proves what? Which side are you on ;-)
Working mothers 'bad for children - This study was contradicted by 40 years of more comprehensive research. It also suggests women who work parttime help their children's eventual performance. Personally, I find this conclusion comforting as I was a ptwah when my children were young.
