Funny though how the First Amendment says "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
It doesn't say "except for prohibiting ads within 30 days of an election..."
Then again, since you style my comments "ranting", can I suppose you're comfortable prohibiting speech you don't agree with?
Actually, it is sufficiently ambiguous that one could argue the point, but then again, successful argument is another matter, and politics does play a role in how liberally the amendment will be interpreted.
Not really... If it were, why wasn't it cited in support of any of the gay marriage cases?
Ah, but does it silence you? Are you prohibited from saying it?
Now I have no opinion on the law itself, it runs both ways (hello, MoveOn) but it does not restrict our right as individuals to speak our mind. It regulates mass media... big difference.
