Appearing for the supporters of Prop 8, Kenneth Starr, the former Whitewater prosecutor, said the people hold the right to modify the state constitution by adding or subtracting protections for civil rights.

Whoa, who twisted words? Communication is a two way street. If a meaning comes across differently, that is intentional?

Simply clarify, not start accusations flying. Kate and I both read it a certain way, so did others. Once it was apparent the meaning taken was different than meaning intended, simply clarify.

If I collect every post in this thread between laura and I, there is plenty of justification for why people oppose or perhaps feel as they do about

Nope, you do not. shall I accuse you now, as I and kate stand accused?

I choose to clarify, thank you.

When an issue is adjudicated over rights, some wish the court to follow strict interpretations of rights. I prefer that courts look at the issue with an eye to what what other countries do, if they have more liberal policy and such. Solidifying and expanding human rights this way is precedent setting and favours people - it is in our best interests as individuals.

There is some evidence of some justices on the US Supreme Court ruling in this manner, and I agree with the approach.

So if say... they look at same sex marriage as an issue, looking at say... The Netherlands, Canada, Spain, etc... makes sense. Just because it has never been allowed before should not be justification for not allowing it going forward.

I too do not wish to go off on an abortion tangent, and so I'll hold off on that.

>>Not at all. I am sure kate and I do not agree on everything in life or even with lgbt issues. Yet if I have a certain view of an issue, whilst I might point out oppositional view, I will not spend multiple posts arguing against those who hold the position I do. I will share what the opposition says, but I will not defend it.

Then you are not speaking of your disagreements, you're speaking

>>The California Supreme Court previously ruled that marriage is a civil right and it had been legal in California so in fact, wasn't there a vote to "remove" that "right"?

Do you mean they ruled that "same sex" marriage was a civil right?

My understanding is CA's Supremes have flipped votes of the people before. I won't say more than that, because I simply do not have a good handle on their particular process.

A one month closed window, with many months of it open, is not a restriction in the classic sense. It acts more as an equalising buffer, no different than prohibitions on how close campaign workers can actually get to
