In truth, there are lots of differences between my marriage and close friendships.

I'd have to agree with you. To say that the only difference between your marriage and my relationship with my best friend is sex would completely trivialize your marriage. Marriage is a lot more than sex and no matter how close one's relationship with his or her best friend is, it's not on the same level as a marriage. My relationship with my best friend, although strong, is no where as intense as my marriage. Adding sex to my relationship with my best friend would not make it the same as my marriage.

There are many dimensions to my relationship with my dw that are not present in that with my closest friend, and visa versa.
We both know that isn't going to happen though.
