Confederacy, 1863. If a vote were taken on the issue then, what is the outcome?

We cannot allow even the hypothetical to exist. It is unthinkable, and there should be no legal way to make it happen.

Didn't congress vote for the 13th ammendment?

Thanks for the additional info kaytygirl. Really appreciate it.

I can only hope that civic SSmarriage will be legal in the US asap.

IMO there shouldn't be a need to want/demand to do away with present traditional church/civic (all in one) marriages in a church.... meaning: leave that as is...

Rather focus on overturning the DOMA and advocate civic SSmarriage, in order to gain the much desired same legal rights that automatically come with marriage.

Having been a fervent advocate of SSmarriage in NL in words and deeds (addressing seminars on the issue), the inflexibility, disrespect

>>> Really, the right was bamboozled, despite their already opposition? Really now - there is the real story here.

I was referring to folks who supported gay marriage because they believed it was a matter of "rights"...hospital visitation, inheritance, etc

>>> Then again none of that is really it, is it? what we really have here on the part of some on the right is a wish to stand in the way of rights of others, and who find everything possible to facilitate such an argument.

What we really have here are militants who aren't interested in "equal rights," or compromise, but demand society not only accept their behavior, but also elevate it to the point of corrupting long-held social institutions...without regard to the feelings of those who wish to preserve those traditions.

Maybe in 30-40 years when Caucasian is a "minority" in the US - some will appreciate the Constitution
