The justices uphold the same-sex marriage ban but also rule that the 18,000 gay couples who wed before the November vote will stay married. The decision is sure to spark another ballot box fight.

Reporting from San Francisco -- The California Supreme Court today upheld Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage but also ruled that gay couples who wed before the election will continue to be married under state law.
The decision virtually ensures another fight at the ballot box over marriage rights for gays. Gay rights activists say they may ask voters to repeal the marriage ban as early as next year, and opponents have pledged to fight any such effort. Proposition 8 passed with 52% of the vote.

Gay people have the same rights as heterosexual people.
Don't you know that asking for others not to bash our heads in is a special right?
That asking if we might marry our partners is a special right? After all, we can marry a child if they are of the opposite sex, but an adult of the same sex? Nope, someone will decide that is disgusting - and a special right.
Heck, wearing a tux to a prom if physically female, well... to some, that is a special right, or a gown if physically male, same thing. Minds matter not, being human matters not, but then that holds true as the same folk hold we should torture, we should detain people without charges and trial, we should strip women of the right to reproductive choice... one side supports human rights, and the other... does not.

Interestingly, several on the right have come out in favour of same sex marriage, yet another sign that things are changing faster than others can appreciate.

>>> okie doke...had to pop back in and say that I do not think I ever inferred that "if it doesn't bother me personally, it's got to be ok"...
Actually, seems to be the whole foundation of your argument...
“Nothing at all about my marriage is going to change....”
“I'd be ok with gay married folks in every house on my block...after all...(again) how would their marriage adversely affect me..???”
>>> just don't see us ever having a useful debate if you keep asking me the same queston over and over and I keep answering and we both get nowhere....
The questions aren't the same...they've been getting more and more qualifies as you've provided more information. That's the way a debate goes, but it appears that "because I say so" is about as good an argument as we're likely to see from most on the left.
>>> Have a good afternoon....
Ta!
Gay people have the same rights that I have.
(((Ummm, NO!
