The justices uphold the same-sex marriage ban but also rule that the 18,000 gay couples who wed before the November vote will stay married. The decision is sure to spark another ballot box fight.

Reporting from San Francisco -- The California Supreme Court today upheld Proposition 8's ban on same-sex marriage but also ruled that gay couples who wed before the election will continue to be married under state law.

The decision virtually ensures another fight at the ballot box over marriage rights for gays. Gay rights activists say they may ask voters to repeal the marriage ban as early as next year, and opponents have pledged to fight any such effort. Proposition 8 passed with 52% of the vote.

If that is your wish...by all means....I won't vote to ban your marriage to a sibling.

If you are both of legal age and both consent....whatever works for ya.

So please tell me again why you have an issue with it?

I never said that.

Which "traditional marriage" are you trying to hold onto?

The ones in the bible.......like polygamy?

The ones where women were owned by the men they were married to?

The ones that were about property and not love?

Marriage has been an evolving institution.

Churches adopted marriage to get more heathens to join the faith, as they adopted so many pagan customs.

For the umpteenth time, i am not totally against gay marriage!!! i am trying to express the point that it just opens up a whole new argument for other groups for their rights, whether we agree with them or not!! i'm done with this debate, because try as i may, i am just hitting my head against closed doors.

>>If some people feel that something is morally wrong "to them"..then they don't have to DO it.

If people feel that gay marriage is wrong, no one is going to force them to marry someone of their same gender.

Should marriage between elderly couples be banned because some feel it is morally wrong to marry if you arent going to procreate?

Should people be bannd from marrying a 3rd time? A 4th? because others feel it is morally wrong?

Convicted killers can marry, from prision.

Gay marriage harms no one, forces no one to be gay, and will not start a rush of pedohhiles and horses and lawn sprinklers to the courts to demand marital rights.<<

Thank you for that fine argument in favor of supporting my right to marry my sister!

So, in the states where gay marriage is already legal...how many people have you seen clamoring to marry children? Animals? Furniture?

Seriously.

As I've said before...go for it.

>>Good luck with that because I think the incest taboo is too strong to be overcome just by your desire to marry your sibling.<<

So that makes it right?

The same could be said about the gay marriage and why the majority of the population does not support redefining the tradition of marriage.

I'm just surprised by all the hypocrisy I see and desire for favored status among many of the gay population. They want special consideration but don't want it extended to other "outside the norm" groups.

That's funny because I'm seeing selective reading.
