Will this be a vote that only requires 51 votes or is this one of those 60 vote things?

Going only by what was written in the article, this was a 'tally' not a vote.

Yeah, I understood about the process in the article; I was wondering about voting on the actual bill and whether to pass it would need just a majority vote or the "new" super majority.

I thought this vote was to actually have the bill presented to the Senate for a vote, not how they will vote. Remember, there was the same thing with the health care bill. Even people who weren't going to vote favorably for it felt that it deserved a chance to be heard on the floor of the Senate.

If I understand it correctly, this was the vote that needed to clear a super-majority (and did).

I think I'm very confused by the Senate rules and when they do and don't need a super majority.

Phew!

I'm pretty sure at this point that the people of Massachusetts who voted for Brown wanted two things: more jobs and lower taxes.

It's good that he's at least trying to fulfil his campaign promises.

Did you know there are two Senators named S. Brown?

Senator Scott Brown (R) Ma.
