The Problem of Illiteracy in Our Nation’s Capital

You have to hand it to that Arizona Governor Jan Brewer. She is so dedicated to fighting illiteracy, she’s funded this video to help promote reading not only in her own state of Arizona, but also to combat the terrible problem of illiteracy in Washington D.C.
It seems many people, powerful people that you would normally expect to be able to read, just aren’t able to read simple laws. Many of these same people produce and vote on laws that are 2,000 and nearly 3,000 pages long…yet find themselves incapable of reading the very laws they pass…or an Arizona law that is only 10 pages long.
I remember there used to be a commercial on TV, one we could all agree with: a mind is a terrible thing to waste.
But thank God for Governor Brewer’s dedication to this important issue.

Flopping Aces reports, that despite the campaign of lies, fear and race-baiting coming directly from Barack Obama, 17 states have moved to adopt an Arizona-style immigration law.
With poll after poll after poll showing overwhelming majorities of voters support Arizona’s new immigration law and expressing concern (Rasmussen, Gallup) about illegal immigration, it’s no wonder that legislatures in other states, whose representatives are much more attuned to the will of the people than Democrats in Washington are moving to replicate the Arizona law.
Americans for Legal Immigration PAC have put together a list of 17 states currently considering similar measures.
They include: ARKANSAS, IDAHO, INDIANA, MARYLAND, MICHIGAN, MINNESOTA, MISSOURI, NEBRASKA, NEVADA, NEW JERSEY, OHIO, OKLAHOMA, PENNSYLVANIA, RHODE ISLAND, SOUTH CAROLINA, TEXAS, and UTAH.
ALI-PAC is tracking progress at each state on this issue at their forum.
Obama’s big lie on immigration, like his big lie on health care and much more isn’t winning the hearts and minds of the American people. Exactly the opposite is happening.
It appears the gov is walking the middle ground...shocking for a politician...

Nevada gov. deflects questions on AZ immigration law
Nevada Gov. Jim Gibbons says Arizona was forced to impose it's own immigration enforcement laws because of inaction by the federal government, but is noncommittal on whether he'd support a similar law in Nevada.
Talking with reporters Monday, the first-term Republican governor said Arizona and others border states have "unique" circumstances.
He says he doesn't need to support the Arizona law because it doesn't affect Nevada.
He acknowledged, however, that illegal immigration is a problem in Nevada, and later in the day issued a press release criticizing President Obama and Democrats for failing to enforce federal
immigration laws.
In the release Gibbons called on the Democratic leadership in Congress and the White House to update and enforce U.S. immigration laws Monday, suggesting they were making the issue a political one.

New Arizona immigration law sounds good to Butler County officials
That's what Butler County Sheriff Rick Jones and Ohio Rep. Courtney Combs, R-Ross Township, have asked Ohio Gov. Ted Strickland to get done.
In a letter sent Tuesday, the duo asked Strickland "to employ your leadership role as Governor to assure legislation is passed that will mirror that of the illegal immigration legislation" and to use his influence to get two immigration-related senate bills and a Comb-sponsored house bill passed in Ohio.
Jones and Combs sent similar letters to Ohio Speaker of the House Armond Budish and Senate President Bill Harris.
"We need to get a discussion. We need to get something done in Ohio to where we control the illegal immigration into Ohio and the crime that's coming from these other countries where they are sneaking into Ohio," Jones said.

State lawmakers and others in Texas, Utah, Georgia, Ohio and Maryland are seizing on Arizona's hard-line approach to illegal immigration, which has the approval of many conservatives who say it is necessary in the absence of adequate federal policies.

That's the point I was trying to make, though (unsuccessfully)...he doesn't have a problem stepping into the fire or getting the state involved in a legal mess, or anything like that. If he is behind it, he will get the state involved. That's the way he rolls (and it's the reason why he doesn't have a chance of winning reelection).
