Obama's plans for hope and change..."Hey, there's a burning ship over there, sinking into the ocean. I have an idea, let's build one just like it and force all of the American people to get on board."

Naturally...rationing is "necessary"...unless it's your care, or the care of your loved ones, that is being rationed...then it's the insurance companies, or the "rich" who are evil.

We're counting on the GOPers to take more than baby steps...in the other direction.

It is not necessary. It is the lack of will to make it work.

How much should one--insurance company, individual, corporation, any entity--pay to extend a terminally-ill patient's life an additional three months?

A hundred dollars? A thousand? A million? A billion? A trillion?

Can we justify a super-high cost because it will make some pharmaceutical company or some high-tech medical equipment company a pretty profit?

Is that the best use of that money?

Shouldn't we instead be spending those millions or billions to educate our children?

Our souls are eternal; our physical bodies are not. Let's face it and let go so that our children--all over the world--can help to sustain us old folks while we are still REALLY alive. And let's NOT expect them to sustain us when we are half-dead or vegetables polluting their earth.

What eternity? There is not proof that it exists.
What about cloning and transfer of the mind?
what about breakthroughs in medical technology.
Many people are afraid that we will start putting value on a person's life(actually we do and have done). What if it is two years terminal why then do we force the person to live past the point where the have no life? Even when they want out!
Where does it start and where does it end.

Good points/questions.

Yes, we do put a value on an individual's life now. Those who are born in a village in Africa or Asia, or in the slums of any big U.S. city, aren't worth much, and cannot even get uncontaminated drinking water or clean air to breathe. Those born into an affluent family here in the U.S. suburbs we deem more valuable--they are precious little babies to be nurtured and educated to the hilt in private academies where the "nobodies" can't go.

The unfortunates--well, tough luck, right?

Yes that is correct. Imo it is a crime to allow such in the US.
I agree on the "nobodies". They are not to be seen and every efort is to be applied to keep the "good" people from have to come in contact with them.
Worse is antiquated zoning laws that prohibit roommates In college 19 people renting a big house could live cheaply. But the "hippie" commune scare ended that. Today such could be a "drydock" for the frustrated.
Many Asian countries do not have Social security as we know it and very different value system even "love" has a different meaning.
It does not have to be that way.

Barack Obama has extended his best wishes to Muslims in America and around the world and announced that he will host a fast-breaking dinner at the White House this week.

"I want to extend my best wishes to the 1.5 billion Muslims around the world -- and your families and friends -- as you welcome the beginning of Ramadan," Obama said in an official statement issued by the US State Department.

"Ramadan is a celebration of a faith known for great diversity and racial equality.
