Another Obama vacation????

Unemployment is rising, staggering debt, uncontrolled government spending. Obama decides to spend ANOTHER vacation at Martha's vineyard....summer playground of the rich and famous. The man is clearly out of touch with reality.

http://www.cnn.com/2010/POLITICS/08/19/obama.vacation/index.html?hpt=C2

(CNN) -- President Obama and his family head to Martha's Vineyard on Friday for a weeklong vacation, but don't expect it to be without controversy.

It will be the president's second time on the island off the coast of Massachusetts. In 2009, Obama spent time golfing and hanging out with family and friends.

Vacations are often considered political low-hanging fruit: Zing a president or first lady anytime they go away for some rest and relaxation.

Critics have asked: Why did the Obamas go to Maine instead of the Gulf Coast as Obama had encouraged Americans to help bolster tourism there? Once in the Gulf, why only for 27 hours? Who footed the bill for Michelle Obama's glitzy trip to Spain?

As for Martha's Vineyard, isn't that an elite playground?

Presidential historian Douglas Brinkley said some voters pay close attention to the message a destination sends -- especially in tough economic times.

"People would rather see their President in Put-in-Bay, Ohio, or the Wisconsin Dells than in the Kennedy realm of Cape Cod," he said.

Journalist Ken Walsh, who wrote a book on the history of presidential retreats, said the level of criticism goes up no matter who is in office.

"The opposition party is almost like a parlor game in Washington," he said. "There's a ritual that the out party criticizes the president for being profligate with spending taxpayers' money for flying away from Washington, for not being sensitive to people's concerns and that's what is happening with President Obama now."

Walsh recalled how President Clinton was concerned about how his vacation destination played in middle America.

"President Clinton, for instance, took polls to figure out where he should go on vacation when he ran for re-election," he said. "He took polls to figure out where Americans want the president to go. Well national parks, so President Clinton went to national parks."

But Clinton also spent plenty of time on Martha's Vineyard.

The view of Martha's Vineyard, a vacation spot of the rich and famous, has the potential to hurt a president's image with average Americans when times are tough.

"When they run into trouble, public relations-wise, if they look like they are being insensitive to the problems of the country and whatever people are going through," he said. "And that could be the problem President Obama has in Martha's Vineyard."

Presidential vacations have been scrutinized by the public for more than a century.

George W. Bush was often criticized by Democrats for taking long vacations to his ranch in Crawford, Texas, during the Iraq war.

For Theodore Roosevelt, leaving Washington for months to ride the rails or a horse created an uproar. The same was true for Franklin Roosevelt, who spent time floating around on his private yacht.

"Criticism's always been there ... whether it's Theodore Roosevelt disappearing and hunting, there's criticism," Brinkley said. "Whether it's FDR living on a yacht and not being at the White House, there's criticism."

Even John Adams came under fire when he spent around eight months away from the White House caring for his sick wife, Abigail.

"When he was away, the critics said he kind of abdicated the presidency," Walsh said. "And there were a lot of attempts to organize a sort of a war against France when he was away. So, he had to come back to deal with all that."

I heard that Micky Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy were all registered Democrats too. I wonder if they will be voting this year?

"Yes, there are more registered Dems than there are Republicans but they are not as enthusiastic as the others"

Considering so many registered democrats are also permanete residents of cemeteries, it's understandable why it's so difficult to get them to the polls.

Back in Feb. independents favored GOOPers over Dems, 47 to 31%. If it's now 45 to 35%, the trend is toward increased support for Dems. The latest smear, that Obama is a Muslim and not a Christian, will only help us Dems. I have faith in the intelligence of most independents!

From the link in your post:

"The Democratic Party remains competitive with the GOP despite the independent tilt toward the Republican Party because more registered voters identify as Democrats (35%) than as Republicans (31%) in the March-June data."

>>That tells me that 34% of GOOPers are closed-minded and hooked on FOX. So sad.....But good for us Dems when election time rolls around. The intelligent independents will do all they can to avoid being associated with the rightwingers, haha!

Not this intelligent Independent......

Quantitative easing is commonly spoken at the Fed these days. When people will actually pay you to borrow their money as we have seen recently you are surely living in intereting times.

Obama refuses to go to church and shows extreme favoritism towards Muslims. Actions speak louder than words.

But even among the president's allies, the numbers are shifting. In March 2009, 55 percent of Democrats said the president is a Christian. That number is now 46 percent.

In March 2009, 36 percent of African-Americans said they didn't know the president's religion. That number is now 46 percent. Self-described liberal Democrats who don't know what religion the president is shifted from 23 percent to 31 percent.

43 percent of Americans now say they don't know what Obama's religion is at all.

Eighteen percent of independents say the president is a Muslim, up from 10 percent in March 2009.

March 2009, according to the poll by the non-partisan Pew Research Center and its affiliated Pew Forum on Religion & Public Life. The number who correctly said he is a Christian dipped to 34 percent, down from 47 percent two years ago. But the largest share of people, 43 percent, said they were uncertain of his faith, up from the 32 percent in late 2008.

A separate survey carried out Monday -- five days after Obama talked about the mosque -- by Time magazine/ABT SRBI found that 24 percent think he is a Muslim, 47 percent said they believe he is Christian and 24 percent were unsure or didn't respond. The poll also revealed that 61 percent opposed the construction of the Park51/Cordoba House project, while just 26 percent approved it.

(34% of GOOPers think he's a Muslim--and that poll was before his Aug. 13th statement about the Islamic center in NYC.)

It might have something to do with a couple of things....which are usually a Muslim focus:

1) Obama is turning NASA into a Muslim outreach program....he thinks it's important for NASA to make Muslims feel good about their contributions to math and science. I'm sure people of other religions contribute a lot too....but no outreach for them....just the muslims. Hmmm.....

2) Makes fun of the people of PA as "clinging to their guns and bibles"....Hmmmm.....

3) Cancels the National Day of Prayer at the White House....but continues with the Ramadan Dinner at the White House. Hmmmm......

4) Supports Muslims building their mega-mosque near ground zero....but doesn't give a hoot about the feelings of the victims of 9/11. Hmmmmm.....

5) Let's not forget his middle name.

6) And don't forget the picture of him floating around "dressed in Muslim garb".

Is it any wonder why people think he's Muslim? He certainly isn't very Christian.

Personally, I don't think he's either. He doesn't worship any God.

Yeah, a MUSLIM elitist!

34% of GOOPers think he's a Muslim--and that poll was before his Aug. 13th statement about the Islamic center in NYC.

That tells me that 34% of GOOPers are closed-minded and hooked on FOX. So sad.....But good for us Dems when election time rolls around. The intelligent independents will do all they can to avoid being associated with the rightwingers, haha!

Obama has always been an elitist...and he knows he's going to be a one-term guy, so he's trying to make the most of it.
