Crashed and burned last night! I went to a party and got a bit "festive" (had 3 Jack and cokes, more like a "Jack and a splash"!). Of course, when I got home, I HAD to eat something. That "something" ended up being a two

Deb,

You had ONE iffy day; it's okay. And from some of the research I've done, that one day may spike your metabolism because of the higher caloric intake. And since you got back on track immediately, it may actually benefit your weight loss all the more because you spiked your metabolism the previous day! I know you probably think I'm crazy, but I have read that in a few different places. One article said that a day once a week or every other week where you splurge some is good (like eat an extra 500 calories or so) because it prevents your body from getting used to the same caloric intake every day, and in some cases, can even prevent some plateaus because you're tricking your body to turn up the furnace (metabolism), but then you lower your caloric intake the next day so you lose weight.

I hope that is what happens for you!! So, according to the research, this may have been okay for you! I hope so. Nonetheless, you enjoyed yourself and that's good for you and your dieting morale.

Shawna,

Isn't it funny how we try to be so good, but when we're bad occasionally we actually do better?! I'm glad you lost that much! It sort of threw your body off track a little bit, forcing it to burn more calories, but when you did eat less, it was still trying to burn more calories. Kind of weird, but I think I may start trying to do this once a week or so. Maybe that's my problem! :) I try to be so good, but I don't have just one day once in a while where I eat a little more than usual. I think for me it's like all or nothing. I eat really well and don't see the results so I get really depressed and overeat. Not good! I'll just shake it up a little bit. :)

My cousin is a dietician, and she is of the mind set that when you hit a a wall diet wise upping calories for a day or two actually does work to rev up metabolism. It has absolutely been the case for me. jenz 260/193/160

I'm glad to hear that! That's what I've read lately. I guess what happens is that your metabolism acutally turns up...I guess that's what has happened with you and Shawna. You all make me so proud...I am having a hell of a time losing weight and I look at your successess and it makes me so happy. Like Dana said, I'm going to have to get on my doctor about getting my thyroid problem fixed. I keep ignoring it, pretending that it's not causing me hardships in losing weight. The truth is, though, that it is. I work out hard, I eat well, and lose nothing. If I don't exercise because I get discouraged, but still eat well, I'm lucky if I only gain a pound! It's like I've hit a brick wall.

Pardon my whining! I'm done for now.
