Oh the poor Hamster! Hey, you didn't do it on purpose! Last night my husband ran over a cat. JEEEEEZE! I was so freaked by it and he was very upset. Thank God our son was playing his Gameboy in the back seat and didn't notice. "He just asked what did we hit mommy?" I said it was a peice of metal and to stay in the car while I checked. Poor cat was dead.

Ugh

I can tell you one thing ... it wasn't your fault.

Shawna,

That is so heartbreaking! Pepe may just have succumbed to hamster fever, age, or anything unrelated to the cold. Guilt and grief just seem to go together, though, don't they?

As for Pepe II, if you think you can handle it, try welcome him/her into your home. I had to have my sweet cat of 16 years put to sleep in October, horrible enough, but my boyfriend brought home a new kitten right away to boot! And, boy, did I feel guilty about "replacing" Natasha, AND about not giving the new cat a fair shake. But, you know, it really DID help!

Hope things are better for you soon.

Shawna, I am so sorry to hear of your loss. What I try to do when I lose a pet is say "well, XXXX had the best life a XXXX could have while XXXX was here."

My mother has always told me that if she believe in reincarnation, she would want to come back as one of my spoiled rotten cats. I don't blame her. I am very good to my animals. I'm sure you provided the best life possible for your beloved pet.

Blessings,

Deb, be thankful that the cat is dead.

I'm not saying that to make you feel bad, either. Feel ... peace.

As a lifelong lover of indoor/outdoor cats, I can honestly tell you that they never fully get over being hit by a car if they survive, and the cost to help them survive is astronomical. They are in constant pain, if they live, for the rest of their lives.

Look at it this way: The cat your husband ran over is out of its misery.

And, depending on where you were driving, it was quite possibly a ferel cat and was living out a miserable existence anyway.

That leads to a plug to neuter animals. Cats can have up to four litters a year!!!! The ferel cat population in this country is astronomical.

Blessings,
