Frame size? Huh?

So I go see a dr. at a clinic today and I mentioned to him that my goal weight is 150 lbs. I LOVE the way I looked at 150 and that was my healthiest time in my life! The only visible picture of me in my house is one of me at that weight.

This guy said that I am extremely obese (duh) and I need to cut down to 1000 calories a day and less than 11 grams of fat, and that I need to walk obsessively. I told him I eat between 1000 and 2000 cals a day, and I am trying to make it les than 30% fat. He said 1000 should be my goal, and that for my ht. I should aim for 120 lbs as a goal. I told him that I thought that was too little because I have a large frame and he told me that "large frame" and "big boned" are terms made up by fat people so they can live with themselves. First of all, I was insulted. Second of all, I have always thought frame size mattered. I have broad shoulders and my chest only sticks out 3 inches farther than my rib cage! My wrists are large as well. My best friend is my height and her ribs are HALF as large (front to back) as mine are. She weighs 120 and looks like a model...albeit a short one. If I weighed 120 I think I would look grotesque! Does that make sense? Or am I deluding myself and I really should try to get down to 120?

Mel, again it's your life. You are entitled to gain weight, crash diet, shorten your lifespan, and get your *medical* advice from folks in a "health club" instead of doing what the doctor tells you to. But you have no reason to take your aggression out on the doctor, or on me for that matter. The doctor told you what to do, and you won't listen.

And the person who *claims* to be a dietitian also *claims* to write fiction, and claims to have a weight problem. So reason would tell you (ya think?) to listen to a doctor with credentials on a wall (which you can check out) rather than some anonymous *dietitian* who CLs (a non-paying job) on a chat board, or just a couple guys you happen to bump into at a *health* club. That is, reason would tell a reasonable person that. But you take your health advice from guys in health clubs, on street corners, or in chat rooms over a medical doctor, go ahead, and maybe it won't kill you. (I bet you believe the National Enquirer too.)

You deserve what you get, because that's what you CHOOSE for yourself. And I'm sure the doctor is busy helping people capable of reason and commonsense, and helping themselves rather than blaming others.

Whose turn is it to copy all the flaming post from fly-by-posters for the CMs????

Which Message #s do you want to take vox? I'll cut and past those I've gathered into word for the next CM.

Blessings,

Aggression? LOL! I was deliberately polite because it's a holiday for me and I have no wish to argue. I also took no aggression out on the dr. I simply found qualified individuals with whom I could talk and took their advice based on their research and credentials. You can be as derisive and obtuse as you wish but the dietitians- including the woman on this board who is very much an inspiration and resource for many of us- have provided verifiable information without being insulting or beligerent.

I did not happen to bump into anyone. I called, made an appointment, and went in to speak to the woman at the health club. Her credentials- also posted on the wall- were also verifiable. What makes his antiquated degree more credible than hers, or her colleagues? She has a bachelor of sciences degree in dietetics and food service management, which would imply that her focus was on that area, rather than being a general practicioner who deals with an array of issues and doesn't specialize in anything.
