She/he does appear to have a deep hatred towards heavy people and I think wants to drop everyone down to her level so she can feel smug and superior.

It's pretty commonly known, the sizes have gotten bigger to accommodate the growing American waistline. I even posted a link, and article for you, on the topic. If you want to see that as "peeing on your parade," then that's a choice you make. But the fact is size 14 today is yesterday's size 18, and the other poster's size 18 is yesterdays size 22. It's just a matter of truth in advertising.

And now, I didn't write the article. I didn't write any number of articles, or scripts for news programs on television on this topic. So don't get angry with the messenger. It's just simple fact, size 14 is really size 18, except in stores like Lane Bryant which have always run large, given their customer base. In Lane Bryant it's a little larger still.

So tell me, why do you feel it appropriate to pee on my parade? Are you just that type of person? And dont tell me its because you are trying to educate me....its more than that. I dont know why you feel the need to do it, but its definitely not becoming of your board or RL personality. And weren't you the one who said on the other boards that you hate when people try to spoil the holiday spirit for others? What do you call your remarks in this post? And I wish I could remind you word for word what you said, but you already editted it out. Whats new....

Btw, were all dolled up and getting ready to take pictures and then were out the door.....YEAH!

Just want to add my two cents...

First of all, Shawna...WAY TO GO GIRL! That is an awesome accomplishment and I am so happy for you!

Secondly, who CARES if the sizes have changed over the years. If everyone is doing it (skinny and fat stores) then it doesn't really matter now does it? If you ask me it is a genius marketing scheme. And what is it with women's sizes anyway?? Placing an arbitrary number on a certain measurement...so who really cares if yesterdays 22 is now an 18. We're not stupid...we know they have changed things...we know Lane Bryant's cuts are bigger than "regular" stores...that's why we love LB. Because it makes us feel good and encourages us to keep going. If were being fooled then oh well. I started in a LB 26 and now I'm starting to swim in a LB 20...just because 10 years ago those numbers would've been, say, 30 and 24 doesn't make it any less of an accomplishment on my part.

Throw out the arbitrary numbering system and focus on how you feel about yourself. I think the point isn't that you made the post but that you made it *here* in a thread where someone is celebrating a milestone. Why not congratulate her and then post that info in a separate post completely unrelated to this one. I just think it was kind of tactless, ya know?

Hoping that you are able to measure your success in a way that makes *you* happy...

No, I did answer your question. The answer, again, is no. It was simply noting how size 14 is really size 18, size 18 is really size 22. I noticed earlier someone mentioned how caskets and grave plots are larger nowadays too, to compensate for America's burgeoning waistline. And you didn't blow a fuse over that one. It's curious that you, and some others here, should get so bent-out-of-shape learning that the fashion industry has made it's sizes bigger in recent years, or that a size 14 at Lane Bryant is not REALLY size 14. In fact, Lane Bryant's sizes were always cut large, right from the start, due to it's customer base. When an fat person goes into Lane Bryant and fits into a size 14 (which is at least a size 18) it makes the person more likely to spend money. A matter of marketing is all. And no, the whole world is not out to get you. The fashion industry didn't start putting size 14 labels into size 18 clothing and Lane Bryant didn't make it's clothes larger and put smaller size labels into them just to get-your-goat. It happened because the fashion industry wants to sell clothes. So get over thinking everything revolves around you personally, because those size changes were not about you personally....never were....rather, it was all about selling clothes to a gullible public. They didn't do it to hurt your feelings either: again, it was to sell clothes. When a size 18 person goes into Lane Bryant she's more likely to buy the skirt if she can squeeze into something which says size 14, even though it's standard size 18. And that's all there really is to it. No new news there.

You still didnt answer my questions....you are trying to bring me down and ya know, thats completely ok =) There is no bringing me down right now, size 14 or size 18...does it really matter today? Nope. So please dont educate us, especially since you say its a commonly known fact...so why even bring it up besides to hurt someone's feelings?

Its Christmas Eve, Im with my best friend, her daughter, my son, my husband, my parents and brother will be here tonight, we have a tree loaded with presents, great food is being prepared today....its a joyous day! I have had a great week and plan an equally great Christmas Eve and Christmas Day =)

So I hope that you have a great day as well with your family and friends. I read in a magazine this morning that "positive breeds positive". I hope that you can push your ill will aside and just focus on the great things today. So have a VERY Merry Christmas!
