Hi there, I am new to this board, but not new to the fact that I NEED to exercise. I am quite overweight and I need to lose about 50-75 lbs and I was wondering if step aroebics will help me lose the fat in my stomach area? Any tips or pointers would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

I am a HUGE step aerobics fan and have been doing it for 5 years for sure...I think longer but not 100%.

I read an iVillage article the other day. They say that you're not doing much good targeting "problem" areas although it definately doesn't hurt to do them. You will NOT get huge thighs from step aerobics. And when you exercise you lose weight all over your body. If you gain weight in your hips (for example) that's the last place you will lose it.

To answer your question...step aerobics will help you lose fat in your stomach area. Ab exercises are only for your MUSCLES. After my c-section ab exercises became my best friend to gain better posture NOT lose weight in my stomach.

Good Luck!

Unfortunately, you can't really control WHERE your body chooses to pull its fat stores from when losing weight.
