You know what- I have also heard lots of great things.

Last weekend I bought a pilates set w/ videos, rubber bands, a ball- the works (luckily it was on big time sale).

I tried it for the first time last night. Yeah... I don't think I am in shape enough to do pilates. It wan't just hard (b/c I am up for a challenge)- quite a bit of it was downright impossible for me to do (ie my body doesn't bend that way, my muscles don't know how to do that, etc.).

I, too, would appreciate any beginners advice! :) I don't want to give up, but man!!

i have "the method" pilates tape. target training or something. it is very hard. i've done different targeted areas several times and am still getting used to it. but i do it anyway, 1) it's the only one i have right now .... 2) i want to be able to do those things, and i think if i try and try i'll get there.... 3) for what i can do with it, it leaves my muscles sore, but not hurting, so i feel like it is effective.

i also want to say that i CANNOT bend like those girls can either, (funny i always imagined i could, until i tried it, lol). i just do the best i can trying to do the same moves... now for some of the really tricky stuff, i just continue to do a move that i can do, until they move onto something else.

ok, does anyone have any *plus size* work outs? any richard simmons or anything, (he might be weird but hey he pays attention to what a fat girl can do! lol) ... or any other work outs that are good but also easy enogh for a + size body.

Serena

ps. not trying to hijack your question gothratty, lol.

I like Leslie Sansone's Walk away the Pounds. I'm still on the one mile tape, but hope to move up to the 2 mile tape soon. She's easy to follow, and I feel good because I can do all her moves (pretty much just walking moves, knee lifts, side steps, etc.) I feel like I get a good workout with her tapes. She also has you do upper body work while you walk, so you can get an upper body workout as well. I have 3 sets of her videos, the original Walk away the Pounds, Walk away the Pounds for Abs and Walk away the Pounds express. Here's her website in case you're interested in any of her videos.

I have "Walk Away the Pounds" and really enjoy it, too.

I'm with Crystal, though- I'd still love pilates advice!! :)

For a "plus sized" workout, I reccomend Leslie Sandstone's (I think that is her name)"Walk Away the Pounds"...she has 1,2 and 3 mile workouts for whatever amount of energy or time you have and it is as low or high impact as you want! Let me know how it goes!

I have several of the Winsor pilates dvd's. I really enjoy it and I think they are a good start for beginners. Mari goes pretty slowly in most of them so you don't feel rushed into a position or through the moves. And she explains them well enough that you get what you are supposed to do. In the basic set there is someone who shows a modified version of each position. This is great if you have any back or neck problems, or just can't bend like those skinny girls can, LOL!

I haven't done them in forever, I need to get back into it. I really like it and you can feel that it is working, which is the best part!!

When i first started to work out at 260 pounds, i borrowed my sisters "old lady" yoga tape. It was a p.m. yoga tape that had a picture of a 60 something lady on it. I knew it was about my speed, when i saw a 60 year old on the front. It is designed for relaxation and it gives a gentle workout for people with terrible fitness level like i used to have. True to the hype on the box it was very relaxing/spiritual, it did reduce stress, which shocked me.It gave my muscles a great warm up before i did the treadmill or walked the doggie. It incorporates gentle stretching and deep breathing techniques and i always felt like i was very centered after donig the tape. It was also a 1/2 hour so i got throught it quick. I can look for the title if you like, its buried among my kids 100 lus video and dvd collection. let me know. jenz
