Did anyone see Dr. Phil show yesterday?

I was home, for a change, and happened to catch it. The radio personality has lost 88 lbs since September 15, and Thomas has lost 67 lbs. The young woman who lost both her sisters in the auto accident is back on track too, has lost a huge amount of weight since Sept 15 and will be in a South Beach bikini contest in March. Even that dark haired woman (forgot her name) who weighed so much over 300lbs and wimpered and *blamed the world* for her problems, said Phil was *her last resort* (attempted guilt tripping the guy, how foolish is that), even that woman....ANGELA...is finding that she only has one chin, not 6 or 7!! A viewer, someone without benefit of gym or anything but her own free will, has lost 69 lbs since the end of September.

So, how far have you guys come in 3-4 months? Have you lost somewhere between 88 and 68 lbs, or are you just diddling around here? It's do-able, but you have to understand that it's no one's fault but your own for the state your body is in. And it will be entirely up to you to change it.

So the doctor on the program said Thomas had probably added 5 years to his life, by taking off the weight and improving his general health. By taking charge of his lifestyle. Sure beats being in a coffin 5 years too soon, all because you don't *choose to* control the fork, and get out there and get some exercise.

If you have been *dieting* since September, and can't honestly look at the scale and see that you've taken off at least 15 lbs every month in that timeframe, or at least 60 lbs total since September 13 (this being January 13 so 4 months x15 lbs= 60 lbs) then all you're doing is playing games, and fooling no one but yourselves.

So which is it? Success, or failure??

well, thanks for that. well at least until that last paragraph. it does help to be reminded about the power of self control and the power of individual choice. as a matter of fact it will even help me today. i've been fighting chocolate fudge cravings all day and that post might just give me the extra push to rethink my battle strategy against them.

who are you again, i don't remember seeing you here before? are you trying to help or hurt? so which is it? are you playing games or giving support? we welcome and encourage and are open to support. just my 2 cents.

If you read some of her other posts Serena, then that might answer your question on whether she is trying to help or hurt.

So funny you should mention this-

If you have been *dieting* since September, and can't honestly look at the scale and see that you've taken off at least 15 lbs every month in that timeframe, or at least 60 lbs total since September 13 (this being January 13 so 4 months x15 lbs= 60 lbs) then all you're doing is playing games, and fooling no one but yourselves.

Amazingly enough.......I myself have been dieting since September.

I have lurked on and off this board for a while, in fact even before IVillage changed message board formats, and when I was at my highest weight I found this board and began using it for inspiration, but not posting because of people who made unsupportive, unkind, cruel, or otherwise negative posts. There have been several, and I am sure there will be more. Such is the nature of the beasts. Some people must make themselves feel somehow superior to others or else they just can't function. It's a character flaw.

However, verbally attacking and demeaning other people is absolutely detestable, and interestingly enough, not allowed on ivillage. There's a link at the top that says Rules of Play. Please read it before you continue to post inflammatory and unkind posts that are disrespectful, hurtful, and unkind. The people who use this board KNOW they need to lose weight, which is why the label isn't "I want to gain more weight and die young" rather than "100 pounds or more to lose". It's not a news flash to anyone. Support and encouragement are invaluable and undermining that kinship and service the people here provide to and for each other is despicable.

And in addition, I notice that you don't ever share anything about yourself, other than your negative attitude, and your profile is blank. These people put themselves out there, they open themselves up to receive support and encouragement (and occasionally abuse), provide it in return, and don't hide behind a name with no details. I never posted here because I knew that I couldn't handle the negativity of other posters, but the girls make a great point- it IS worth it, and if this board weren't here I wouldn't have attained the success I have, and that I will continue to have.

I also saw the program, first time in months. And I agree with you totally. Losing 15 lbs per month, or more if extremely obese, is perfectly reasonable and I'm impressed with the physical changes of several of Dr. Phil's *contestants.* I think some people here, though, fail to see real progress because they are not so much intereste in taking off the weight as they are in getting the attention that being in a *perpetual* state of diet gives them. Have you noticed that?!

And did you realize that talking to yourself is another serious problem?

>>i've been fighting chocolate fudge cravings all day<<

Here's hoping the chocolate fudge didn't win! How could a little piece of inert food on a plate hold that kind of power over ANY person anyway? It doesn't: not unless you let it. And Ambrosia is right. All it takes to lose weight is consuming less food than the body uses each day for fuel. And if you are counting calories, or should I say making each calorie really *count* toward your health, then that chocolate fudge either displaces healthy food in your diet or puts on some extra calories which no dieter needs. Food doesn't control a person, unless she gives up self-control. And come to think of it, if the chocolate fudge isn't in the house then you can't eat it. So in order to be as successful as you can be, toss out or give away any foods which don't contribute to your goal. That's what the Phil folks did....and it's impressive when a man loses 80+ pounds in less than 4 months. Anybody can do it, even you. Just do it.

BTW I hear he has a menu book out now too, though I haven't seen it (nor looked actually). So he makes it super-simple for people (who claim they don't know how) to just get it done! It doesn't get much easier, it seems.
