Another Newbie that Needs Help

Hi Everyone....

I've read through the board some and feel like I have some of the same issues as the rest of you. I'm severly overweight and have been for most of my life. I'm 29, turning 30 next month and I feel like if I don't tackle this now, I never will. I'm single, don't have children, and live alone with my two dogs. So I have absolutely no reason why I shouldn't be able to loose weight. Yet here I am, still heavy and making no progress.

I've been heavy my whole life, but I started on the depro provera shot three years ago and my weight has really gone up since then. I don't really diet beyond the waking up in the morning and saying ok, today i'm going to diet. By the time lunch comes, the diet mindset is totally lost. Right now i'm working my normal full time job and a part time doing taxes, so I don't have much time for exercise, but know I can fit it in somewhere. Plus the fact that my dogs NEED to be walked every day. I've been trying to walk for atleast 15 mins every lunch hour.

I guess what i'm asking for is some help. I've done weight watchers in the past and lost weight, but the instant I got to the point where other people started to notice, I went downhill. I also did Atkins for awhile, but got bored eating the same thing over and over. I'm not a big fan of cooking.. and have absolutely no control over portion size. Is there any hope for me?? From the people i've talked to, who've had the most success over time, counting calories seems to be the way to go. But i'm not sure how many calories I should be having in a day. Do I go by the weight I want to be, or the weight I am now. I also have a lot of problems eating during the day while i'm working. I work at a desk/computer all day and always seem to be munching on something. We joke about it at work.. but I really don't find it a laughing matter anymore. I'm going to be needing to buy new spring clothes for work and dread having to shop at the only place that has my size and normally nothing I like.

So if you could give any advice, information, or a plain old kick in the butt, i'd really appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

Liz

Hi and Welcome! On Discovery Health they are having a body challenge and you put in your weight, measurements and they tell you what your calorie intake should be. It also has some recipes + exercises. Link:http://www.in2nutrition.com/discovery/default.cfm ...also www.fitday.com you put what foods you eat and it tells you the calories and you put in your activities/exerices and it tells you calories burned. It's good to keep track of. Most food i find i have to put in the info myself because the calories are diff then that of the site. Good luck!
