Hi there! First off, I want to say CONGRATS to all of you who have lost weight and those like me, bitting the bullet and starting the weight loss steps!

Let me intorduce myself, I am Nishia 23 and from Dallas Texas. I am married for 4 years to my DH (James) 24. James and I have been ttc our first child for 22months, and yet have gotten our child. I was seeing my OB/GYN and he was helping us, when we found out this last OCT (03) that I had PCOS. I will be seeing a RE this Feb to get my PCOS under control. I have seen many dr about my DH and I wanting to start our family. Every dr that we had been to would say the ONLY reason that I can not get preg. is because I am overweight. I would get upset and move on to the next dr. I never stopped that thought that could have been "PART" of the reason! (denial) So than in June of 02-June of 03 DH and I did WW. I lost 75 pounds. (weight at time b4 WW-235) I was doing good till I hit a really really low point in my life, and found that food helped me deal with it all. SO fast foward to today. I am now at my heaviest...275 (give or take) I have been learking this board and watching all yall success stories dropping lbs and the amazing suppot that you guys give to one another.

--So here I am...I am on my way to sheading these pounds and get to my goal weight. I can not afford to go to WW, so I am going to watch the food intake, and cut all sweets, and cokes. Also work out. I also want to increase the amount of water I drink. (none at this time...all cokes...NO LIE) My goal weight I to be 145 (long term goal) but I would love to be 200 by November of this year. (that is my 5 yr annv.--and we are planning a big trip.) I wish that I could wait and see my RE till I lost a few pounds b/c I know his first words..."you need to loose weight." (it has taken me 4 mons to get into see him, so I am keeping this apt--I want a baby this year!!!)

Is there any suggestions that you girls might suggest to help me kick start this weight loss. I am up for all opinions and ideas! I would love to hear!

I look foward to getting to know you all. Like I said, you women seem very helpful and supportive!

Thanks so much!

Nishia

Hi!

I only have a few minutes now, but I wanted to say I also have PCOS and as a result am insulin resistant(most pcos'ers are). The only real approach that addresses that for me is one that cuts carbs because they are at the root of the insulin idiocies my body has created. Feel free to email me privately and we can chat about it.

Congrats for coming out of lurker mode.

Parenting is one of the most rewarding jobs out there. Getting healthy for yourself and the well-being of an unborn baby is a wonderful step. My daughter is 15 months old. I know that I have to lose weight if I wanted to get pregnant again. Unfortunately, I won't be ready for baby #2 until next year.

I lost weight on Weight Watchers years ago and actually liked the program. You can buy the books & cookbooks off eBay for a reasonable price. Also, my mom still has the books from the QuickStart program (I think that was the name) that was available through Weight Watchers in the 1980's. The program still works!! Like Shawna said, you don't have to pay the money to go to the meetings...people have spilled the "secrets" of WW all over the internet.

Anyways, welcome to the board. We're here for you.

Hi and welcome. I have heard that being overweight makes it harder to get prego but don't know much about it. There is a board on ParentsPlace called Trying to conceive while losing weight that may know more or give you pointers. As for this board, everyone is a supportive so be sure to post often =)

Thanks so much ladies that y'all welcomed me here!

Sorry that it has taken me so long to get back to you ladies. I was really busy the last couple of days!

Ok so here is what I did...I found my old WW books. I am going to start back on that. I gave up cokes!!!!!! YEA! That has been the hardest so far. I went as far as opening all of them and pouring them out, down the drain. (there was almost a 12 pack) I am now drinking water! :) I brought a hudge cup with me to work. (I work nights) Anyways, DH was shocked that I was going to be doing this again. I had been thinking about it, but never took the plundge to do it, than I just came home and was like this is what I want, and he is so supportive! He sees how bad I treat myself, and how I always let myself down.

I am excited about the decision on my life style change:)

Thanks for the warm welcome ladies!!!
