I don't really have much to say as I don't watch Dr. Phil (heard too many bad things about what he was saying to ppl).

Hmmm. Dr.Phil (btw, have you ever heard him say that he's not a medical doctor but a psychologist??). I used to watch his show when I was on maternity leave. Sometimes I wanted to slap him in the face and other times I couldn't have said what he had said any better. I don't really like watching his show (on stat holidays when I don't have to open shop) anymore because his ego has grown too big.

Why is he mouthing off about weight loss plans when he's not exactly in the best shape of his life either? I watched something on Biography about him...I saw him in a whole new light.

Yes, he is selling some kind of Diet pills made for your specific body type. The reason I know this is because in the magazines (Shape) they have a huge chocolate chip cookie that takes up the whole page promoting his pills...makes me weak at the knees everytime! I think I've ripped it out of the magazine now.

My mom bought his book (she buys into every NEW diet out there) and I actually sat down and read it. Very good book (I thought). Definately changed my negative ways of thinking. He's right, it's not really a diet...it's a kick in the pants. He and I see eye to eye with his book. Apparently he has a new one out, am I going to buy it? Nope. Why? Because the first one gave me all the information I wanted/needed. Why would I go out and sink more money into the million dollar guy? When I start to feel weak minded, I read his book all over again. I'm so glad I don't hear his voice when I read it though, I'd be crazy by now.

These knowledgable (atleast they think they are) doctors keep coming up with new and improved diets and ways of eating but they'd quit if EVERYONE in the world stopped buying into them (I'm guilty of it too). The reason why people keep buying into them is because people keep looking for a quick fix. Very few people know that weight loss is long-term. And if they *know* it, they still look for a quick fix. There is NO miracle diet pill or weight loss potion...but we keep looking!

By trial and error people have to find what works for them. That's the only way around it. I use Slim-Fast products because I make horrible food choices and I have to learn to change my way of thinking before I know I can make GOOD choices.

Denial. Obesity and denial go hand in hand.

This is just my opinion. You may agree, you may not but that's the beauty of a discussion.

I have no idea why Dr Phil would be so outspoken about how his plan is so much better than all the others, well besides to get a bigger falling and make more money in the long run.

Shawna,

I had a very long "2 cents" worked up on the whole Dr Phil thing, but alas the computer shut down...

Here's the bottom line!

I don't care for the man, I believe him to be in it for the fame/money. I wouldn't go on his plan merely because I've got no respect for him and couldn't stand behind anything he's in front of! His show, like Dr Laura, icks me out and the arguing/fingerpointing makes me agitated therefor I don't watch his show - it's not "entertainment" for me!

There are a MILLION different plans because there are a MILLION different people! That's really what it boils down to! Lots have lost on all the plans and lots have failed, there is no sure-fire or quickfix that fits EVERYBODY! If there were, the diet industry would be out of money and like healthcare, that won't happen - period!

Media/society has placed a picture in our minds of what "perfect" is. There is no perfect. There are as many variables as there are people. There are men/women that love being large and men/women that find large attractive.

This is getting away from me again!! :) Point is, there isn't 1 perfect plan for all of us to go on, BUT we can all lend a helping hand to be ambassadors for our plan and make everyone feels the accomplishments of their goals - big or small!

Life is too short to be fighting over which is the best diet plan. Life is too short to look at someone else's accomplishments and feel guilty that you've not done as well. Life's too short to point fingers or try to mold someone else into your perfect.

Life's too short - period!

Personally, I think it would be interesting to start a thread to see what plans people are on and how they feel about them.

I've been searching for my perfect plan for a long time. Honestly, I'm sure I could succeed on any of them but right this second in my life it's not my biggest fish to fry (or baked in lemon instead as that would be less fattening! hehe) I've got other issues that are taking priority over weightloss and I know I won't succeed at anything until the weightloss/lifestyle change is my focus!

There you have it!! :)

I also think that there are so many different diets and plans out there because like has been said many a times....not every diet is for everyone.

I must admit that I don't care for Dr. Phil in the least.

I was curious about the Atkins diet and came across an article in Good Housekeeping. What was nice about this is that they outline the latest fad diets and didn't seem to be endorsing anyone. The conclusion of the article was that for long term weight loss you would have to count calories and excersise. Weight Watchers was not memtioned in the article by name but that's precisely what she concluded would work.

I lost 60 lbs with Weight Watchers before I plateaued. I quit soon after. W.W. formula works as long as you do your part. I don't quite know what sparked my original motivation that led me to lose 60 lbs. I'd been on soooo many diets before, even W.W. and I could never make them work. If we could only bottle that initial spark and reuse it when needed all would be grand.

The fact is that we all know what we need to do to lose the weight but it's the motivation side that we need help with. It's people like Dr. Phil who exploit our weaknesses to line their own pockets.

Thanks, tenaciousdlb

Hi Shawna,

Don't pay any attention to icy princess, or ambrosia pine, or whatever her name is this week. You are doing awesome and we're all very proud of you. Keep up the good work.
