New here and would like some help

I came across this board a few years ago and so I knew I could come here for support and advice. I have a little less than 100 pounds to lose and need motivation. And any advice to a starting out dieter would be great. Thanks!

Motivation is something you find for yourself...no one can give it to you. WHY do you want to lose weight? It's okay to want to lose out of pure vanity, for health reasons, because you've got a reunion to go to, etc. But the reason has to be personal to you.
The men and women who post on this board are following different methods for weight loss. You'll need to follow one that works for you. I personally count calories and exercise. I keep my calorie intake between 1600-2000 calories a day (give or take a few), and workout 90 minutes a day, 4-5 days a week. Exercise is going to be crucial to your weight loss efforts.
I've lost 25 pounds since October, and 30-35 since August. I'm hitting a plateau, which isn't surprising considering how Thanksgiving, finals, Christmas, and New Year's disrupted my routine. I'm hoping the weight loss picks up again soon. My philosophy on this is that the changes I've made will have to carry me through my entire life, so an occasional "slip-up" isn't that devastating--it's minor in the grand scheme of things. I just resolve to do better the next day.
You definitely need a support person, someone who's knowledgeable on diet and exercise, and supports your efforts. I've found a really great doctor at the student health center. This board is a great place to start, but you'll need the support of your friends, family, and co-workers. Good luck!
