Co-Workers Can Make it Difficult!

I work in a cubicle environment, and sometimes, my co-workers drive me nuts with their food.

I try to be so good, bring somewhat healthy food from home, trying to avoid going out for fast food or to the vending machines. Like today, I had a SlimFast bar for breakfast, a cup of applesauce for a snack, and about a cup of steak and a cup of rice/broccoli leftover from last night for lunch. I feel about hungry enough to chew off my arm! And somebody in here just made popcorn; man does it smell good!

We've got people who make bacon in the morning (that smells really good, too!), or bring in boxes of doughnuts, coffee cake, etc, and make it a point of stopping at each and every desk to offer some.

I know I've got to try to ignore what's going on around me, but at times like this (remember the fresh popcorn?), it sure is hard!

i'm not working right now a few months ago i was working in a factory and in the break room they had 5 vending machines and all around people were snacking, i would bring my lunch and snacks to eat so it didn't bother me unless i had mandatory overtime and would haveta get something out of the vending machine for dinner..Everyday it seemed someone there was making popcorn too..LOL

Suggestions for this dilema:

Bring your own light popcorn (I can't stand this stuff, but it's not bad with I can't believe it's not butter spray sprayed on it.)

Eat your lunch outside

If your workplace has a suggestion box, annonimously suggest that eating in cubicles be curtailed

buy meal replacement or snack bars for your desk

stock up on gum/breath mints

drink lots of water

Jennifer,

I so understand you. My co workers make it hard as well. They ridicule me about it saying that I can start when ever and it's not important. They will throw my snacks away that are healthy and the right portions with comments to the effect well that's not big enough to be a snack. BUT at the same time I hear comments about my "fluffiness". SIGH...people sure are silly.

Blessings,

Kar

I know exactly what you mean! I am in school to become a medical administrative assistant, so my class is a big office setting, and we already have the habits of a regular office. People bring in donuts and crap like that everyday, plus I am the activities coordinator in my class, so I coordinate meals every month. We always have to have one. Like, we just did a freshman breakfast--it's a surprise breakfast we give every quarter to the freshman. I have to not only make food, but put all the food in order on the tables, and people want me to test what they make...And we also have a birthday party complete with ice cream and cupcakes every month I have to put together, and right now I just finished the form for the Valentine's Chili Supper we're having Feb. 13, along with the Feb. birthday party the same day... The only good thing about this is that most of my friends and I are all on either Atkins or low-fat diets, so we kind of support each other and say "You don't need that put it back." It helps out a lot.

Have you thought about maybe bringing low-fat Healthy Choice popcorn or something? Then maybe you can share it with others and be part of the crowd w/o having to ruin your diet?

I think Ive said this before but if someone was throwing away MY food and then commenting on it like that, I would have to have a few talks with some people.

Thank you all for your suggestions and support:)

I made sure I brought lots of healthy snacks with me to work today, so hopefully won't feel like I need to "chew off my arm" this afternoon!

You know, when I really think about it, it seems like just about all the people who bring in "goodies" to share are thin. I bet they have no idea how hard it can be to turn down a fresh, yummy doughnut from Krispy Kreme!

Thanks again;)

I wasn't passive about this at all. I raised enough heck that it won't happen again. But people are just silly when it comes to this stuff.
