Co-Workers Can Make it Difficult!

I work in a cubicle environment, and sometimes, my co-workers drive me nuts with their food.

I try to be so good, bring somewhat healthy food from home, trying to avoid going out for fast food or to the vending machines. Like today, I had a SlimFast bar for breakfast, a cup of applesauce for a snack, and about a cup of steak and a cup of rice/broccoli leftover from last night for lunch. I feel about hungry enough to chew off my arm! And somebody in here just made popcorn; man does it smell good!

We've got people who make bacon in the morning (that smells really good, too!), or bring in boxes of doughnuts, coffee cake, etc, and make it a point of stopping at each and every desk to offer some.

I know I've got to try to ignore what's going on around me, but at times like this (remember the fresh popcorn?), it sure is hard!

LOL! I just have to say this- Shawna, you're like the weight loss Terminator. I keep expecting you to ask for names and addresses of the people who do these things so you can drop them a visit......with some technologically superior weaponage of course.

;-)

Just teasing, I love your posts! Have a great day!

We will have to capitalize it- you are the Terminator. :-)

Glad you liked it. I think you'd do great as a counselor for people trying to lose weight. You're very inspirational.

It really is up to you to take care of what you eat, and other people at work (or elsewhere) don't have to take your diet into consideration when picking up food for themselves. If you want popcorn, eat airpopped and put some herbs on it. A whole cup plain popcorn has something like 20 calories, and no fat unless you make it fattening.

Your right, but since they are her coworkers and were trying to be polite by offering her foods in the first place, then you could conclude

Sure, she can ask them not to offer her donuts anymore. Nowhere did I say otherwise. But friends or not, they don't have to diet just because she is trying to lose weight. And they can bring whatever treats, for themselves or others, that they choose. It's up to her to *just say no.* Even in the same household, oftentimes, one person will be dieting while no one else is. And there's no reason for everyone to put away the goodies just because one person may be tempted. As an adult, she controls what goes into her mouth. And even if these *friends* are polite and ask her again (what, out of force of habit) after she declines, it's no biggie. The three magic words, *no thank you.* And no need to make an issue out of it.

I don't think you can make such a grand, sweeping statement with any rhyme or reason behind it. People bring food into work for all sorts of reasons, one being because it's what they want to eat (or share)on a particular day. Whether they eat the same foods at home, or not, is really not something you (or your friend) could know or argue with any rational. Point is, it's their business what they bring to eat and if she doesn't want any then she's a big girl now, and perfectly capable of saying *no thank you.* Right!
