What's Wrong??

I am very frustrated. I am in my 4th week of my new life. That life being someone who EXERCISES. Almost every weekday for the last 4 weeks I drag my kid to 24 Hour Fitness and go at it. I started out with just cardio but now am adding weight machines also. In the beginning it killed me to do 45 minutes of level 3 on the bikes. Now I do 45 minutes of level 5 and am starting to transition to level 6. I think I can tell a difference in my clothes.

Interestingly enough I have portion control down. I haven’t gained a pound in 6 months. My problem is I can’t loose weight! I finally came to the conclusion that with the yoyo dieting of my life I had lowered my metabolism to a crawl. So I started exercising.

All the weeks later I have lost 3 lbs! Just 3!

At first I didn’t change my diet much because I had already mastered portion control. Now I am eating like a bird. I don’t eat much meat so I am concentrating on proteins. I have those Atkins shakes and my fridge is full of TOFU. I am also eating non salted nuts but not too many.

Yesterday with tears in my eyes I took my Dr Phil book and walked over to my Dr’s house (2 houses over) practically demanding a thyroid test. I don’t think he thinks that is my problem but I will be getting one of those in the next week. He seems to think I was adding muscle which was causing the scale not to go down. I don’t think it’s that.

Today I have ingested 1 Atkins protein shake (170 cal), Tofu (75 Cal), and 3 pecans. My only drink has been Dr Coke.

Tomorrow I will again haul myself 3 pound lighter body to 24 Fitness to workout again but do you guys have any ideas? Could it be my metabolism? How long does it take to boost a metabolism?

I agree with the previous post. That sounds like way too few calories. Your body is probably in starvation mode, which means its going to hold onto fat for dear life. I tried a severely limited calorie diet once and a) I felt like crud and b) I lost NOTHING. Maybe up the calories and see how that works for you? Best of luck!

I really can't say much more than the others, I do agree that it is most likely a combination between not enough calories and building muscle. But, I know that it is hard to not see the results you want when you feel like you are working so hard! Don't get discouraged, you are doing wonderful things for your body even if it isn't showing its appreciation just yet!! Keep up the great work you are doing and you WILL start to see those pounds come off. Remember this is a journey not a race!!

Hi, i know it's fustrating i had lost 12 lbs the first 2 weeks of just doing workouts at home then i started adding weights at the gym and i've not lost weight BUT i have still lost inches on my measurements. If you see the difference in your clothes u know u are losing something right? lol.. your sample menu was way too low i know it seems like the less u eat and more u exercise the more you will lose but u need a certain number of calories to do so.And you should be drinking water 8 glasses of it, i drink 3/4-1 gallon a day. If you doing just cardio you need at least 1200 calories and if you are doing cardio and weights add another 200-300. Good luck and start doing measurements so u can see the difference and not feel so discouraged ok =)
