I am 27 yrs old. I have been battling with my weight for about 10 yrs now. Since I had my daughter. I put on alot of it then. But not this much. It really wasn't until I got a desk job that I gained all this weight. I am totally inactive. Not motivated. I tell myself I am, but I really don't think I am or I would be doing something, right? I am a total foodaholic! Especially Italian food!! I got motivated last summer, after being single so long I thought if I looked good I would find someone. Sure enough I did! I lost 25lbs and met my current b/f. But now I'm comfortable with him..we've been together 10 months. So it doesn't bother me to eat in front of him. And my weight stayed the same.
So I guess what I'm looking for here is a little motivation and support. I have so many health issues that I'm sure would get better if I lost the weight and I want to look good for my b/f and have energy for my daughter. I want to be beautiful again, look good in my clothes and feel comfortable in my skin. I quit smoking in Nov and since have gained 7 lbs. I have been on an emotional rollercoaster since my quit. Honestly I'm a mess.
Here's a question: How do you not eat alot when you have a family to cook for? My real problem is portion control. I don't really snack. But feel like I'm constantly hungry. I'm using Slim Fast right now. Just started this week. But when I cook every night I also eat. I try to stick to chicken or pork with veggies and a side. But again portions!!
I guess I just don't know where to begin and I would really appreciate any words of wisdom. : \

First, welcome to the board! Glad to have you here. You made the right decision of speaking up.
So, you use portion control and slim-fast? That is hard to keep up with a lot of times. I think you just need to read the boxes on all the food you eat and make sure that you only eat that much--1 serving. Count calories and fat grams, drink lots and lots of water, (i stopped drinking soda completely, and i was addicted to dr pepper!)and get in some exerciseand it'll start coming off.

I hear ya, I'm a total Pepsi addict!! But I have cut way back. Thanks for the advice. I guess I just need to get used to the idea of watching what I eat.
Thanks!
HI Jessica =)
Your welcome =)

I'm a newbie myself, but can already tell I'm going to get a lot out of this board.
Like you, I don't snack much either, but have trouble with portion control. Combined with my lack of activity (I too have a desk job), I've gradually gotten bigger and bigger.
As I've only recently committed to doing something about my weight, I don't have a lot of advice for you. I can tell you to never get discouraged and give up; you can do it!
The gals here have already shown what a fantastic support system you can have just by visiting; take advantage of their words of wisdom and encouragement.
See 'ya around;)

Jessica....I'd be starving too!!
Welcome! You definitely found the right place. I also have a problem with portion control. I noticed that you said that you don't snack much. Maybe you should add some healthy snacks like fruit or whole wheat crackers in between meals so that you're not as tempted to overeat. It seems to be working for me.
Good luck with your weight loss journey and I look forward to seeing more of your posts!

I hope you're enjoying your time here on the board, these ladies are great.
I gotta tell ya...Slim Fast does work. My success with slim fast...in Jan. of '01 I started with a weight of 240. By Nov. I'd lost 75lbs and was 35 lbs from my goal. As luck would have it, life took me for a ride and I managed to get back up to around 230 in about a years time- almost all the time it took me to take it off! ugh.
I never really confronted the issues of "why" I was overweight. I never believed that it needed to be done. Well I was totally wrong and would strongly urge anyone to get to the issues at heart and deal so that your success will be long term. After a year of facing my fears and issues from my past- alot to do with my MIL...we'll just leave that at that! LOL...I was ready to lose again.
I restarted Slim Fast at the beginning of Jan. with a goal of 10 lbs for the month. I did it!. I am doing things somewhat different this time around. I'm only using it for 1 meal instead of 2 like I did last time. Only because I believe that this program is a tool to help teach you healthier eating. It takes the guess work out of the way of trying to have to figure it all out at once..only have to worry about 1 sensible meal and snacks per day takes a load off let me tell ya. I felt comfortable however trying it only with one meal and the rest of the day I plan out myself, watching my calories, but not so i'm obsessed. I also watch my fat intake and drink ALOT of water. I have incorporated more fresh veggies/fruits to my day and my approach is to eat whenever I feel hungry..I have finally learned to stop watching the clock and basing my meals around it. Another important key to your success is exercise. Doesnt have to be major at first, but just move! Like with any plan you will need to make this a priority and prep time will be needed.
You mentioned having to cook for your family...one thing I've been doing and it's helped tremendously is I have some cut up veggies in the fridge that I can nibble on while I cook. By the time the meal's on the table I don't feel the urge to completely pig out and blow my day. It's saved me plenty of times! HTH.
Anyways, sorry to be so longwinded! LOL..
best of luck to you. I know you will do great!
