I've done Adkins, Weight Watchers, etc. etc. like many, and have not found long lasting success. Usually I am successful for 3-4 weeks at most - and I then regress to my old ways.
I've had two children - just in December I had an 11 pound 4 oz baby! She did a number on my body as you can imagine so I really need to get focused. I'm in a size 26 and I should be in a 16.
Under all this fat I have a kick butt body. I used to be skinny all my life until about 21 years old. I mean skinny! I had surgery around that time that I think screwed me up - but Doctors won't say that for sure.
Regardless, if I focus I lose weight. It is not a medical impossiblity. But nothing seems to get me to lose weight - no motivation. I've recently found out I have Kidney Disease so weightloss is important for my own life - but even that hasn't motivated me.
I worry about being around for my kids - but I do this as i eat an entire bag of Circus Peanuts...
Does anyone have any REAL advise on how to get motivated for life - not just for a few weeks? What do people do to get through a rough, taxing day, and then work out on top of it or eat right at every meal??
Please help me with your real life experiences...I've read a million books but they just don't help me...

I'm not sure what you mean by "real advice". You're more than likely going to hear the same things that you've heard over and over again, but this time you're going to have to take it to heart. In the past I failed at many diets because I considered them JUST diets. Just something I would do until I lost weight. My new approach is that I am making a LIFE CHANGE. I am not going to give in because I am not happy with myself in my current condition. Until you decide you've had enough I don't think there is any advice that will help. I hope that you don't give up and look forward to seeing you around!!!

Now, the BEST single piece of advice I can give you is to use this board! It's seriously a HUGE motivator when you read about the other gals' successes, and you don't feel so alone when you read about someone battling their food demons! It's a connection and a sense of community and you can make some great friends.
Now, I am doing atkins and so far so good. I have PCOS and hypothyroidism so cutting carbs is a HUGE deal for battling the insulin resistance that goes along with PCOS. You can use www.fitday.com to track diet and exercise if you have the time. Journaling is a great tool because you can SEE where your strengths and weaknesses are.
You can email me anytime at melody12171977@yahoo.com , or find me on yahoo msgr at melody12171977, too, if you want to chat. Sometimes talking to a friend is the only thing that keeps me from hitting the snacks.
Hope to see more of you around!

You have no idea how much each and every one of your posts have meant to me. I'm teary-eyed right now just thinking about the outpouring of support - and you hardly know me!
I believe in all your advise - especially having someone, or all of you to support me. I've always done it alone. I've never had a group to help me through things. Even in Weight Watchers I was the one who had to lose 100+ pounds, while all those around me were losing the "vanity" weight.
I just got back from the doctor today, after my husband finally made me call him. I found out I'm suffering from hypertension induced by pregnancy - they hope. So now I am going on medication to control my high blood pressure. I was up to 165/115 - not good. I'm usually 120/70 and was through my entire pregnancy.
So as you can see weightloss is also key to getting this situation under control. If my blood pressure remains high - my kidneys go into failure. This situation has hit a critical point that I had hoped to avoid....but I guess I am where I am and need to look forward.
If all of you don't mind, I'll be leaning pretty hard on you on this board. My husband and I are going away this weekend, then hitting the "eating right" lifestyle hard next week. We won't be "bad" this weekend, but we figure the damage is done, one last hurrah and we'll be ready to go. We planned this weekend a long time ago - no kids "solo" type deal!
Anyway - I've blabbed on long enough. I am so happy I found this board and I know I will be successful with caring folks like all of you in my corner!!!
now I'm off to make my thermometer! ;-)

Hi Camay!
When I started exercising about a month ago I found out at the gym that my blood pressure and resting pulse were both extremely high (bp was around 180/96 and my resting pulse was 90-something when it should be 60-80...these arent exact but should be close). The trainer at my gym sent me to the doctor who told me to keep exercising and losing weight and in just a WEEK my bp was normal (on the high end but still normal) and my resting hr was normal. It shouldn't take much to get your numbers back to normal so keep it up!!! Theres some great advice to be had around here.
