Joe went and signed up for LIFETIME FITNESS...I am so happy he is getting the motivation to do something about his health...but it is 175 to start and then 65 a month I think after that..It is a wonderful place..they have everything imaginable including baby yoga!!! 2 indoor pools an outdoor water park tannning a dayspa daycare and tons of workout equipment.
While I am very happy he is taking the initiative I cant help but be a wee bit bummed because I want to join WW so bad...but I think I am doing good so far..its just hard to eat so many points ., He said he will pay fopr a membership for me also but I dont think I am brave enough yet to go to a public gym..I am doing great with my hhome workouts with FITTV and my pilates vid and it will be getting warmer soon so I can walk with the baby there is an awesome trail here in our town and it picks up right behind our apt complex .
Have any of you tried out Lifetime Fitness? This is the only one in texas so far....but they are making one in sugarland soon Karrie!

right now i do aerobics at home and at the Y i use weight machines & stationary machines. When i go there's young and old and people of all sizes. The only thing i hate is when i am there and there's just a few thin people.
Maybe they'll give u a day to try it out and see if your ready to do it?

April, that is wonderful that he is buying a membership, although I think that is expensive.
Good point Shawna! Take your health in your own hands April!

That sounds like a really neat place! (I've never heard of it before.)
That said, I am a FIRM believer in the fact that each person needs to find what works for THEM, and that the same thing doesn't work for everybody. I read in here about ladies doing great with their videos, and I personally just cant seem to get motivated to work out (effectively and consistently) in my living room. (I mean, the couch is RIGHT there!! lol) I joined Jazzercise 2 weeks ago and I LOVE it. The people are great, are all shapes and sizes, and there's nothing intimidating about it. (Unlike my apartment's workout room full of Army men!!) -And it is only 8bucks a week (for as many class as you want to go to). That's just me. If I were you, I would definitely try the place out and see how you feel before paying all that money (it sure sounds like a lot of money to me!).
Best of luck to you!!

April...would he let you join a different gym, like Curves.
This sort of "I'm too big/embarrassed to go to the gym" discussion has popped up on a few boards I'm on and the consensus seems to be this:
You may feel like everyone is staring, but they are 99.9% likely not laughing at you, more like "good for her! she's trying to make a positive change in her life! I hope she's not one of those people who quits after a month!"
Can't speak for everyone out there, but that is what I think, and most people I've heard tend to agree.
I don't remember who was talking about being too embarassed about going to the gym, but I was thinking about this all day while I was at school. I can completely relate. When I first started going to the gym it was about 80% thinner people and about 20% overweight to obese people. I was very self conscious at first and figured everyone was looking at me and thinking "why is she even bothering" or "she's never going to get in shape, I dont even know why she's here" (bizarre thoughts now that I think back). After a while I started thinking about the "thin" or "fit" women in the gym like I would think about buying a new car that I can't afford just yet. To me it's like, "I'd love to have her legs some day" and I know that I can I just have to work hard at it (like putting in some overtime to buy that new car).
If you enjoy working out at home then more power to ya. If you're like me and being around people exercising motivates you then don't sell yourself short. You're only hurting yourself by not going and like Shawna said most people are so caught up in their own workouts they're not at all concerned with what you're doing anyway. The self conscious feelings will pass. I am so far into my own groove now when I work out I couldn't describe another person in the gym at the same time as me.
