Hi!! You've come to the right place for support and motivation. The people here are wonderful. I'm still searching for my way. I'm semi-new here too. What are your plans to get started? I'm doing Slim Fast, portion control and exercising. I just bought the Walk away the pounds videos and hope to start them tonight. I hear they are very good to do.

Hi, I haven't been here in ages but I'm just reading today and one-summer posted some good ideas which, when I was in your position last summer, could have saved me a lot of time. It seems one-summer lost her weight (reached goal?) by deciding on a goal weight and then eating the number of calories a person at that weight would eat to stay there. Makes sense, doesn't it. You can find weight charts and calorie charts to correspond on the Internet and probably here on ivillage, or you can ask your physician what she thinks you should weigh and how many calories per day a person at that weight should be eating. And then just do that. Most people already know what healthy eating looks like but they just don't do it. So let's say, for the sake of argument, that you already know what a good meal looks like but you don't follow it. Just follow sensible eating, and "color within the lines," meaning eat no more calories and no more fat than you would have to IF you were already there. Anyway, I wish I had seen that and thought of the obvious because it would have saved me from some of what you're going through. As for finding motivation outside yourself, well that isn't going to happen. You really have to do it for yourself and no one can give it to you. If you want to lose weight then start somewhere and start today and then just keep at it until you're there. There are no magic motivation potions anywhere. You have to look inside for motivation.

welcome to the board! There are different plans people on the board are using-Atkins,South Beach,Body For Life,Slim Fast,Counting Calories,Dr.Phil. Everyone has a reason for picking what they are doing. Just look into each or others and see what fits. I am counting calories, drinking 75oz.+ water daily and exercising 5-6 days a week. The biggest things besides what you eat is drinking water and exercise. Good Luck!!

Welcome! Congratulations on your decision to wanting a healthier life. It does seem overwhelming at first to think of what you want to lose but take it in smaller steps. You can do it! What sort of plan are you thinking of implementing? There are many out there but it's important to do something that you can do for the rest of your life, making it longterm and not just a quick fix. Make this a lifestyle change and you can't go wrong.

I wish you the best for the journey ahead of you, I'm sure you will do great. Just remember to plan ahead, incorporate water and exercise, and enjoy your new life as it unfolds.

I'm also new here - I have no advise as I'm hoping to gain some too - but at least know you are not alone!!!

I'm experiencing health issues that have finally awakened me to my crisis - maybe a trip to your doctor to see your true state of health might be the impetus you need - that is the only advise I can provide right now as I begin my trek as well...
