Hey All:) I just had a quick question... Is anyone doing any kind of diet that is not low carb, or maybe one that is low carb but not as strict as the Atkins??? If so, which one and how is it going? Looking for something other than a really strict low carb diet! Thanks in advance:)

Smiles,

Mindy

There are only a few people that I know of on this board who do Atkins or South Beach diet. We have a lot of WW's, calorie counters, etc.

Personally I am a calorie counter and it works for me. I use www.fitday.com to track my foods and would highly reccommend it.

Hello, my name is Jenn and I'm a carb-aholic. ;)

I'm a vegetarian, so low carb just doesn't quite work for me. ;)

I'm sort of doing the Insulin Resistance diet. (I say sort of because I don't always stick to the "rules". I'm basically taking aspects of a few plans I like and making my own.) But, it basically reduces carbs, but doesn't really restrict them. You learn how to link carbs with proteins so that it doesn't cause your insulin levels to spike, which is what contributes to your body making fat. Carbs in things like dairy produts, beans/legumes, and most fruits and vegetables are ok because of the fiber content and the type of sugar in them, etc. The other thing is that you are only supposed to eat 30 grams of carbs in any 2 hour period. I cannot do the strict carb limiting diets because I know I could not stick to it for the rest of my life, I would either fail miserably or starve to death LOL! That is why I really like the insulin resistance diet, I can still have the foods I like, I just know the right way to eat them.

Hope that helps, good luck!

Hey Mindy!

I have been doing South Beach since Jan 5 and have lost 15 pounds. I did Atkins before that and hated hated hated it!!!!! It was way too strict for me! South Beach teaches you the good carbs and good fats however on South Beach you are not supposed to eat processed foods which is not practical for me SO I am going to start weight watchers on Monday!!! I am going to kind incorporate some of the south beach ideas into it though. I have two jobs and 2 kids so I am sorta busy and south beach just isn't working for me. I need a little more structure for me personally!

Personally, I would NEVER go on a low carb diet. I think they are rather foolish, a fad, and not very healthy. Did you see the news about how the Atkins diet was actually killing Atkins, according to his autopsy results? It's been all over the news this week, and if you are contemplating an Atkins like fad, you might want to look into that first and learn how unhealthy it is.

If you went back and re-read the articles about Atkins you would see that his heart problems had nothing to do with his diet.

I'm doing Body for Life, which is pretty welcoming to variety and works fantastically, as long as you get can stick with the workouts.

I do Atkins and have been for more than 2 years - I don't find it at all restrictive - in fact the choices are endless and I have never run out of ideas or food choices.

I've heard BFL is a good system. Thinking about buying the books myself. What do you like the most about it? and is there anything that you dislike about it?

That's what the Atkins folks have been saying for years. But if you watched the news, or read a newspaper this week, then you'd know that's incorrect. A MEDICAL examiner's report into the death of Dr Atkins, whose diet catapulted fat into fashion, indicated he had a history of heart failure and he likely had a heart attack (one of several) and then hit his head on the pavement when he died. In other words, Atkins diet caused heart problems, including repeated heart attacks, and THAT was the cause of his death. Sojourn was correct, and you can likely find several online links if you've missed news about this all week long.
