Hey All:) I just had a quick question... Is anyone doing any kind of diet that is not low carb, or maybe one that is low carb but not as strict as the Atkins??? If so, which one and how is it going? Looking for something other than a really strict low carb diet! Thanks in advance:)

You're right. The New York medical examiner's report into Atkins's death said he had a history of heart attack, congestive heart failure and hypertension, the Wall Street Journal said. I heard that he likely bumped his head on the sidewalk AFTER having yet another heart attack, so the autopsy results show a heart attack (caused by his bad diet) actually caused his death. Just goes to show what too much fat will do.

Atkins weighed 117 kilograms when he slipped on ice while walking to work in April of last year, the Wall Street Journal said.

Death was due to a "blunt impact injury of the head", according to the examiner's report, BUT the autopsy shows "heart attack" preceded the fall on the sidewalk, one of several recent heart attacks according to the autopsy results.

Why has it taken you two years, if it's so good? I don't think running out of food choices is the issue. It's whether the diet will kill you or not, like it did Atkins. Have you read the Wall Street Journal this week, or seen national news?

I have been on it for two years because it is a lifetime way of eating - it's not just a "diet".

I've basically created my own diet. All diets are based on being low in calories and are hidden under gimmicks like low carb, low fat, etc. Since money or time to follow menus exactly this has been working out for me so far. Sometimes I'll look through other diets and on websites and collect meal ideas and recipes that I'll like and eat and am making myself a mini cookbook of those. I just try to get between 1500-1700 calories a day, and just try to make smart choices such as eating a lot of veggies and eating fish and white meat (chicken, turkey) more often than redmeat(although I still eat redmeat such as lean ground beef and an occasional steak). I know if I'm too strict with myself I'll never follow a diet. I avoid regular sodas (diet instead if I feel I really want a soda) and regular teas and kool-aids too (I drink Crystal Light occasionally). I also cut back on toppings like mayo, sour cream, and butter and instead use low fat or fat free versions and the butter spray. Try to pay attention to the food labels and watch portion sizes, and if you eat a meal and are still hungry have a salad (with light/fat free dressing or lemon and pepper-what I use) to fill you up instead of going for a second helping of meat, potatoes, pastas, or other higher calorie foods. Also I drink a lot of water. I carry around a 16-20 oz water bottle with me throughout the day and refill it as I go. I make sure to drink some before a meal because often you can mistake thirst for hunger. When I go out to eat (which I still do often because my schedule is very busy), I order from the "healthy" part of the menu that alot of restaurants now have and beware of extras like salad dressing and mayo and order those on the side or not at all, or I'll go with a friend and split an entree and we'll each have a side salad. I'll even still have hamburgers and go to fast food restaurants but if I have a hamburger or pther sandwich I'll skip the fries and have a side salad instead. ANd I've learned that salsa -either storebought or I make my own fresh salsa- tastes good on just about everything and is much better than butter or sour cream, etc. I'll use it on baked potatoes, baked or grilled fish or chicken, omlets or scrambled eggs (which I usually use egg beaters or eggwhite for omlets with other ingredients in it or for scrambled one egg and 1 or 2 egg whites to cut back on calories and cholesterol). I bought myself a book of salsa recipes that besides for the normal cooked and fresh salsas has a variety of fruit ones for a more tropical taste and even ones that mix shrimp in them, so I'm not always eating the same thing. I'm also a big sweettooth so I have a drawer of jolly ranchers that I can suck on so that they last a long time and also a lot of fruit and sorbet for desert. I hope some of these ideas help.

I read that you bought a book of salsa recipes. I've always wanted something like that. Especially a good mango salsa recipe. Whats the name of the book and are there any good mango salsa recipes in it that you know of? Mmmm tasty.

Thanks!

Thanks for responding to my post ladies:) I really appreciate all the advice. I think I may try the Curves diet again (I tried it once before for the 6 week challenge) but then stopped when the challenge ended - and the holidays began!!! Once again thanks for all the input and suggestions!!!
