Hey All:) I just had a quick question... Is anyone doing any kind of diet that is not low carb, or maybe one that is low carb but not as strict as the Atkins??? If so, which one and how is it going? Looking for something other than a really strict low carb diet! Thanks in advance:)

Smiles,

Mindy

Then, are you ideal weight? And if so, why are you posting on a board for people with 100 lbs to lose? Have you lost that much on Atkins?

You ask, how will it kill you? Well....maybe you'll die crossing the street, who knows how you or anyone will die. BUT the Atkins diet can lead to death, the same way it led to Atkins death.....haven't you heard that clogged arteries, increased risk of heart disease and diabetes (and others) CAUSED BY increased consumption of fat can kill? That's how it's done, milady. And if you are a lady....female...then you should know that those levels of protein on Atkins can lead to leaching calcium...bone disease. It's a ridiculous way to live....but as we see with Atkins, a guaranteed way not to live too long. Excess fat shortens life. If you want more information on HOW, take a nutrition class.

There was no autopsy. There was an external examination done by a doctor who noted that, at death, Atkins weight was 258 pounds, compared to the 195 pounds he weighed upon check-in a week earlier. The report--and yes, I have read it--notes the damage caused by the fall, and concludes on the last page by noting that Atkins had a history of cardiomyopathy, WHICH IS A CAUSE OF congestive heart failure (also noted on the report), and hypertension.

The report--and to refresh your memory, I HAVE read it--says absolutely nothing about his diet. NOTHING. Your speculation that his diet had anything to do with his death is nothing more than that--speculation.

Again, anyone is free to look at the report, which is available at http://www.thesmokinggun.com. Do a search for Atkins and it will be the at the top of the results list.

Why don't any of these anti-Atkins people post on the Atkins discussion board? Probably because they would be COMPLETELY ignored by people who KNOW the facts about the diet. They just post here to get a reaction. PLEASE stop replying to them and let their threads die a quick death.

Just to add a new twist to things about Atkins...

My father survived CHF this summer but get this no high blood pressure, no cholestral levels that weren't natural and normal, no extra poundage and no clogged arteries at all.

My dad went through a double bypass and replacement of his arota valve and arota. Why, because he was and I was born with a birth defect that causes the heart to die.

Is it just possible that Atkins had a bad heart naturally that wasn't due to how he ate or how "big" he was?? HMMM a new twist on a very old argument.

Mindy,

I think you should consider CAREFULLY before you go the low carb route. It's a fad, and as otehrs have pointed out, the autopsy results from Dr. Atkins death (reported last week in a variety of sources including Today Show, Nightly News, and Wall Street Journal) show that Atkins diet really killed him, causing fat around his vital organs and numerous heart attacks. Those low carb diets are very dangerous fads, and just like all the fads before them, use at your own risk. Why not just eat sensibly from a range of foods and exercise a bit. It works, and you don't risk your life going the sensible route.

I think it's great that someone was so crushed by the death of Dr. Atkins that they can't post a thing without mentioning it.
