Here's a link to some pictures taken of him not long before his death.

I think the issue is, that his autopsy results PROVE that he was overweight at the time of his death. Dr. Atkins when he died was MORBIDLY OBESE, and he had a number of health conditions CAUSED BY following his own diet which were KILLING HIM. The man's autopsy results show that he had hardening of the arteries brought on by too much animal fat in his diet. And in addition to high cholesterol, from his diet, he had a huge amount of fat around his heart. I'm sorry, there's no getting around it. The Atkins diet was killing Dr. Atkins and if he had not fallen and injured himself (probably the extra weight didn't help his balance any either) then he would have died from coronary heart disease, the fat clogging his arteries, as a result of that high fat diet he put himself on and peddled for so many years...the same one which, doubtless, will cause similar problems for the people following it since his death. People can kid themselves into believing you can eat high fat and suffer no consequences, but Atkins own autopsy results which have been plastered all over the news lately show a very different story. It's not a matter of "thinking" the guy was overweight. It's a matter of **knowing** it. The guy's autopsy told the truth, and anybody who takes the time to hear the news, read the news, read his autopsy results online for that matter KNOWS this guy died really really fat, and very unhealthy.

The autopsy SHOWS he was obese, no ifs-and-or-buts about it. The guy had repeated heart attacks brought on by his obesity, and his weigh-in at death proved he was morbidly obese. There is no rewind on life. Dr. Atkins diet fat.

phooey. phooey. Those who want to believe your way will, those who don't (myself included) will believe their way. Leave it alone and get over all of this. Please!

You are incorrect on several counts.

"Doctors did not perform an autopsy on Atkins. They relied instead on an external examination based on hospital information, the paper said."

So tell me, without performing an autopsy, how would one know that "he had a huge amount of fat around his heart"?

Further, a man is considered morbidly obese when he is 100 pounds overweight for his height and age. Dr. Atkins was 72 and over six feet tall. He was nowhere near 100 pounds overweight, and as has been explained REPEATEDLY, he suffered a lot of bloating while in the hospital.
