Dr. Atkins Autopsy

On February 10 on the "Today" show, Ann Curry reported the findings of the coroner who did the autopsy on Dr. Atkins: she said the coroner found: he weighed 258 lbs, he had Hypertension ( high blood pressure ) Congestive heart failure, and his heart showed evidence of multiple past heart attacks.

The word around town in New York City is that Atkins had a massive heart attack while walking to work, then fell and hit his head. Hmm.

Even his family confirmed the autopsy report, but then said "..but none of those findings had anything to do with his diet.." That's not what the medical community discovered in autopsy.

Yes, Dr. Atkins had a history of heart attack, congestive heart failure and hypertension. According to the autopsy, which of course, his business and his widow tried to keep quiet. I don't think it was a big surprise though. No one with a brain would SERIOUSLY think they could eat according to his diet for long and not pay the piper. But people do odd things to lose weight, if they are desperate enough....and that includes going on the Atkins diet, and not caring whether it kills you or not. According to reports this week, it killed Atkins. But notice, some people are still on it anyway. It's like playing russian roulette with a loaded revolver...sooner or later. Oh well. The Atkins machine is really scurrying around this week, though, to drown the autopsy report. Funny, isn't it!

Here, chew on this one:

But Dr Atkins's medical report was released by an organisation that has long campaigned against his diet. It opposes consumption of meat and promotes a vegan diet as a way of preventing cancer.

The medical report, leaked to The Wall Street Journal, shows that Dr Atkins, at 1.83 metres, weighed 116 kilograms last year. This would have given him a score of 35 under the body mass index calculation, used across the world to define whether a person is of healthy weight or not. Under the BMI, a score of 25 defines one as overweight. Over 30 and you are obese.

But the Atkins company said yesterday that 27 of those kilograms were added to Dr Atkins's frame in hospital after his major organs had failed, leaving his body "grossly bloated and distorted" by fluid.

It said no autopsy was done on Dr Atkins's body, so his heart and arteries were not examined, partly because his widow, Veronica Atkins, would not allow it.

The medical report leaked to the Journal was based only on an "external examination" of his body by the New York City chief medical examiner's office.

Dr Atkins died last year, aged 72, after slipping on an icy footpath in Manhattan. His medical report lists the cause of death as head injury.

Dr Atkins, a cardiologist, said in a TV interview three months before he died that he had a heart attack in 2002 and that he believed his heart disease was caused by a virus.

To all the wonderful women of this board, lets not go down this road again. I do Atkins, and love it, but do not want to waste my time arguing with these folks. Its not worth it.

We have all been down this road before, on one board or another, and this is exactly what these posters want...for all of us to jump to the defense of Atkins and then be bombarded with their negative rants.

Lets end this thread before it gets out of hand.

Just my two cents.

I am personally offended at all the crap and spreading of malicious rumors just for the sake of shock value.

Hey, watchthefurfly, I can feel the love. And I appreciate it. You have always been a staunch defender of the women on this board, and you TOTALLY rock for it.

I have to share my DH's amusing remark with you- When I read to him that consumption of meat is as hazardous as consumption of tobacco, he immediately asked me when was the last time we heard of a person dying from second hand meat! I thought you'd like that one.....
