It is called PORTION CONTROL! Obviously something that you hadn't heard of and most likely just had to cut out all foods that kept you from making wise decisions to stop at one or two cookies rather then eating an entire box, therefore making you post here to make others feel bad for your lack of judgement.

Do I eat what I want now,yes...I do.I can eat 1 cookie and put the rest away...I can feel good that I am not giving up everything I like yet STILL LOSING WEIGHT because I know how to control how much I eat now.OMG!People don't have to deprive themselves!?!That MUST be something new!

So be supportive to these women, because as everyone knows,"If you can't say something nice,DON'T SAY ANYTHING AT ALL!".

:-)

We had a fashion show with our troop where we each made two outfits and had to model them and hosted a luncheon. Noooooo....not the girliest troop in the world were we? We did the typical camping and parade marching stuff too, and I LOVED IT.

GSA cookies aren't a good idea for anybody on a diet, for the same reasons that they aren't really a good idea for ANY PERSON interested in his health to eat. Someone mentioned trans-fats and those kinds of fats are present in most (if not all) processed foods like cookies and crackers. If you read the box on GSA cookies, you'll see they are loaded with trans-fats and far too much sugar, not to mention processed (bleached) flour. It's all those things which have led Americans to be so fat in the first place. So I too don't see the rationale for EVEN CONSIDERING eating those things....certainly not for anyone posting on a board devoted to weight loss at the range of 100 lbs or more? People who have that kind of weight to lose either have to get serious about their weight and health, or get seriously fatter and unhealthier. You really would be better off supporting that organization with a check, and taking a pass on the cookies.

The problem with the GSA cookies (or at least one of them) is the transfats and you may not be aware that coconut flavored cookies usually have more transfats than other varieties. All GS cookies are bad for you, but the samoas may be worst of all from a health standpoint, let alone from weight loss vantage point. Not a good idea. Girl Scouts are a fine organization, but their cookies shouldn't be on any weight loss program because they are just plain bad for a person's health. With the epidemic of obesity in our country for both children and adults, you'd think that GSA would provide healthier options and not have the little girls sell those things any longer.

Well no, it's not called PORTION CONTROL. Actually it's called BETTER CHOICES. GSA cookies are unhealthy, even if you eat just one (and most people don't). The problem is trans-fats in the Girl Scout cookies. Trans fats are basically vegetable fats that have been changed chemically by a process known as hydrogenation and typically they take a healthy fat, such as corn oil or soybean oil and make it solid. The correlation between trans fats and heart disease has come to light thanks to the Center for Science in the Public Interest. They have been badgering Congress to make changes to help educate consumers that trans fats act like saturated fats in the body and tend to increase blood cholesterol levels.Foods containing trans-fats, like Girl Scout cookies, can lead to heart disease and other diseases caused by increased trans-fats in the body. It may be a long tradition to sell those cookies, but if GSA was concerned about teaching little girls how to be healthy, they'd sell something else like perhaps fruit sales yearly...or at the very least find a healthier cookie to peddle. For anyone SERIOUS about losing weight, GSA cookies have to come under the category of WHAT ARE THEY THINKING!

Many women are former girl scouts, but that doesn't mean they have to eat unhealthy foods and buy those cookies. There are other ways to support the organization besides clogging one's arteries and potentially shortening your life. Just write them a check, but the cookies kinda get in the way of your goal to lose weight and be healthy. Don't they! I think people just have to take responsibility for what goes into their mouths, and eating foods high in trans-fats should be out of the question for any sane individual in 2004.
