Good Morning Ladies...

I am fighting a flare up of IBS. I was craving red meat, which I don't eat at all and only very rarely, and I have been fighting a sick tummy ever since.

I am also rather fustrated with this whole eating right and NOT losing anything. We are going to talk about uping my thyroid to see if that will help my metabolism speed up.

I also wanted to warn ya'll that I will be very emotional today. We are going to see the Passion tonight and I am already tearing up and feeling the emotion.

I hope everyone is doing well today!

PS. for Lent I am going to walk or exercise everyday. It takes 40 days to make a lifestyle change so here I go. But ya'll not only will I have accountability here I really believe I will need more, so feel free and nag me into this. :)

Chica :)

I can tell you that Southern Baptist do not "celebrate" it. We focus more now on Sedar, which is the Jewish Passover, and Easter itself. The only reason why I have remembered what today is is because of "The Passion of the Christ". I normally wouldn't have remembered what day it is. As for Lent, the reason why my small bible study group is doing it is do the Purpose Driven Life, which takes 40 days to complete. They say it takes 21 days to break a habit and 40 days to make a life change. Also, 40 days is a significant number of days in the Bible.

That's from a Baptist gal. I am sure my fellow sisters can explain what it is from their churches they worship in.

The ashes? You get marked with ashes from the burnt palms of last Palm Sunday. It's a sign of penitence, like when the King of Nineveh wore a potato sack (k, I am taking some license with that one) and sat in ashes and fasted for 40 days of penance to save the city and made everyone else do the same (Jonah had given him the prophecy that led to this).

If you're interested I can email ya some more info about it- it's interesting regardless of denomination.

Oh, and if anyone is interested, www.beliefnet.com has an interactive Lent calendar with suggested activities for each day.

Just a bit more on the sak cloth and ashes...for jews when they grieve they will tear their clothes, put some good ol scratchy sak cloth on and dump ashes over themselves.

See when the Bible needs something done during a long period of time it's 40 days.
