Can everyone post their lifestyle change/diet that they are employing to lose weight? Whether it's just eating right, Atkins, calorie counting, South Beach etc. and how they are doing as far as keeping up with it, not feeling deprived, and whatever else they feel is important to their success.

I'll start if ya'll don't mind?!

I am eating holistically- whole grains, fruits & veggies, legumes, good oils, seeds & nuts, and soy products (tofu, tempeh, etc.)

It was very difficult to omit cheese and dairy out of my diet and sometimes I backslide, but always return to this vegan diet because I feel really good about myself when I'm on it. I eat between 1500-2000 calories a day and manage about 20-25 grams of fat (all good fats) a day, but in both cases if I go over it doesn't really affect my weight loss negatively. This is my own diet, but I think Dr. Ornish writes something similar, he does the "eat more, weigh less" regime. It works for me.

The way I started was to follow the vegan food guide pyramid and not add calories or fats. Amazingly, if I go back and add what I've eaten in the day I fall within the correct range. For example, 5 servings of grains, 6 servings of soy, 3 + of veggies and so on. This also helped me to learn what it is to eat 1 serv. of something, which I didn't know because I didn't grow up eating nutritiously AT ALL.

I look forward to hear what the rest of you's are doing!

Hey Sarah..I am doing WW at home...I love it!! I do NOT feel deprived at all If I have a craving for something more than likely I can have it but in smaller portions that I used to...for instance instead of a huge bowl of ice cream.now 1/2 a cup does it for me..although Ihaven't had icecream in a month of Sundays . And I am trying to stay away from processed foods . So far it hasn't been too difficult except for water consumption..I am beginning to think I wil always have a difficult time getting in my H2O But I dont drink sodas or any sugar filled drinks so thats a plus

I excersice a minimum of 4 days a week//I try to do more but lets face it..it doesn't always happen . I am only doing 30 minutes of cardio and pilates about twice a week . Im getting bored with the pilates vieo I have though.think Im gonna shake things up a bit !

Have a great morning! ps CONGRATS on your 2 pound loss!!!!

Well, I just started Jan 2, 2004. The plan I have followed is my own. I am trying to eat healthy, paying special attention to portion size. (Like you, I didn't grow up eating at all.) I also have stopped my trend of eating out, cooking at home whenever possible. (I still enjoy a plain grilled chicken sandwich if I get a twitching for the drive through. Not bad in the long run.) I drink lots of water, and I have cut my "Diet Coke" addiction down to 0-1 per day (that's a vast improvement!). I have been working out more and more. At first it was hard for me to switch from my sedentary lifestyle to exercising regularly. In the beginning walking the dog was about it. For the past month, I've been working out 3-4 days a week, and for the past two weeks, it has been more like 4-5 days a week. I'm starting to really WANT to work out, because it feels good, which is an awesome change.

I have lost about 15 pounds total since 1/2/04. This is not so bad. The past two weeks though, I've felt that I haven't lost as much as I would like. I think I am going to start measuring (I think I may be gainging muscle/losing inches... need to measure to keep track of that); and I am thinking of finding a more accountable eating system. I have been considering WW from the start, and have kept putting it off, but I think it may be what I need.

I commend you for your vegan eating. It sounds purifying, but I don't think I could pull it off. :) To each her own, right?

Best of luck on your continued success, and congrats on the 2 lb loss!

i'm doing low carb. i'm trying to follow atkins. i started jan 5 and so far have lost 19 pounds. when i stick to plan i'm not hungry and my cravings are gone with the exception of when it's my time of the month. i'm still working on breaking old habits that get in my way. my bad habits are: only eating once or twice a day, not drinking enough water, and eating some of my old junk foods. i exercise about 3 times a week generally.

I am doing Body for Life (BFL) which stresses "clean" eating with a 40(protein)/40(carbs)/20(fat) ratio (natural eating, similar to vegan but with meat) and weight lifting with 20 minute cardio interval training. This plan is not about becoming a body builder. The more muscle you have the more calories you burn in your down time so its about losing body fat and replacing it with lean muscle. I just started this at the beginning of the week but I love it so far. You also get one free day a week which is a big bonus.

Hi Sarah!

Let's see...I'm doing a little of alot. I have read alot about Atkins, South Beach and other diets, but I just can't follow someone's rules. Call me a rebel..but I can't. :\

So I figure I will just change my way of living like everyone says.

So...I'm working on portion control (a biggie for me), calorie counting (try to stay under 1600/day), cardio (lately I'm into the WATP), absolutely NO fast food, dining out at restaraunts down to once a week, learning to cook at home, also less snacking. If I snack, it's a healthy snack. No more cookies, ice cream, candy..junk! However, I do treat myself occasionally. Today is a coworker's bday..and that cake looks yummy!!! So today is treat day!! :) I've also cut out soda, which is really hard, I'm a major Pepsi freak! I allow myself soda when we go out to eat but no more in the house. I've done really well with drinking about 60-80 oz of water a day.

I was getting worried because the scale wasn't moving with all my efforts. So I laid off for awhile, stopped trying so hard and got on the scale last night and voila! I lost 4 lbs! I don't understand it...but yeah me anyway. :)

Congrats on your success so far and good luck with future weight loss.

Jessica

Heloo everybody,

I havent officially started anything yet but I think that I am going to do the DASH diet. (Dietary Approach to Stopping Hypertension). It seems like nobody knows what that is here, so here is a link. http://www.mckinley.uiuc.edu/health-info/dis-cond/bloodpr/dash-1800.html It seems like alot of food t hough (especially the grains) but I think anything that incorporates more veggies and fruits into my day is a good thing. Im taking a good step today. Im looking for a faucet water filter so ill be encouraages to drink more water! Im also looking for copies of WATP that I can afford, its the end of the month, not a good time to be buying anything extra LOL, but if I find a good deal, Ill get it!

Good luck and hugs to everyone!

I tried atkins but i couldn't do low carb ... it was alright for awhile and i *did* lose 5 pounds while on it but i knew i couldn't stick to it the rest of my life because i felt so deprived .... i love my fruit & pasta LOL

Hi Everyone...I am currently on Atkins. I started this WOE on February 10 and have lost 15 lbs total. I'm not having any issues or problems with this plan but am seriously contemplating going on WW. Daily I'm at 1200-1300 calorie intake/under 20 gr carbs but worried about the fat intake, it's where most of my calories come from, as they should from Atkins. I drink water all day long and do Pilates about 3-4 times per week. The only thing I'm struggling with now is thinking if the Atkins plan is realistic to maintaining weightloss in the long run. So that's where my concern is and that's why I'm looking into other plans. I plan on talking to a friend that is a nutritionist soon to get his point of view. Good luck to everyone and congrats to all who have lost this week!
