I got a problem!

Good morning!

Here's the wonderful thing: My family (me, hubby & 2 kids) have been invited to go on a Florida vacation for 10 days with some friends at the end of May. My husband and kids are so excited! The terrible thing: I don't want to go. I don't want to put on a bathing suit or shorts...etc. I weigh 285 lbs., how can I lose enough weight by then even to be assured that I'll fit in a damn airplane seat!

I don't want to hold my family back from enjoying their lives, but this situation really drives home the fact that I am! Got any advice?

Thanks:)

Morning Faith.

I say don't worry about it! I was that size about 2 yrs ago and I learned that the tankini's with the little skirts are the best for hiding things. Cover ups are great when you aren't in the water. And one big thing I learned...not that many people think anything of it. That was a huge realization to me! Remember that May is 2 months away and you can lose 15 pounds or more or even just 10 pounds and that not only will make you feel better but you will be more confident since you are heading towards your goal.

I think one of the greatest lessons I have learned just happened recently. If they care about you...be whatever relationship or a man or lady...they will think you beautiful. It is weird at first but then it drives home that "we are wonderfully made" (Psalms).

Hugs hon and don't worry about it...you are a amazing butterfly in your cocoon waiting to emerge into a huge world full of surprises!!!

SHEW...anyone have a mocha frap?? that tired me out :) putting down pom poms and skipping away.

Well, I fit comfortably in an airplane seat now, and I weigh 270, so just stop drinking soda(if you drink it), get your water, and work out!

I know how you feel! My husband has been wanting to go to Hawaii so badly, and he talked me into going in May. I really am looking forward to the trip, but at the same time I'm nervous about it. I've never really been a beach person, even when I was thinner, and neither is my dh, so we've planned activities that don't involve me wearing a bathing suit. We're going to do a lot of sightseeing, hiking, and we're going to the volcanos where they request that you wear long pants because of safety so I won't look out of place in my jeans! Actually, this upcoming trip is what finally got me serious about weight loss. We booked the trip in early January, and that's when I joined iVillage and really got serious. I know I won't even be close to my goal weight, but I'm hoping to at least feel as comfortable as I can. I know that this is a trip of a lifetime, and I'm going to try as hard as I can to not let my weight spoil it.

Have fun on your trip to Florida! I'm sure you will have a great time. And don't worry about the plane seats. They are tight, but I can fit in them and I'm sure you will be able to, also.

I agree with Karrie about the tankini w/the skirt bottoms. You can find a whole slew of those styles in sizes 1x and up in catalogs like www.newportnews.com and I even think www.lanebryant.com has some. I also agree that while on a beach, people are mostly not looking at you the way you think they are. It's our own minds we have to worry about ie: being so critical. I think the capri pants or even just a pair of nylon shorts and a tank top would work well too. Go with what you're comfortable with. I went to the beach all last year with my group of girlfriends who wear tiny bikinis and are like size 6's. After my initial shock of comparing my body to their's, I was okay. I just let myself go and soaked up the sun and had fun. I think that's what you need to do. Don't let an opportunity for a great vacation go by girl! You deserve it!

We went to Florida in November and I weighed that much and I fit fine in the seats. I had never flown before so I was terrified that I wouldn't but I did and I didn't even need one of those seat belt extender things. I wore capris and such. Don't feel bad!!!!!

Hi! I went to Lake Tahoe and Reno last year at 299 lbs and fit in the seat fine on both the puddle-jumper plane and the giagantic plane. If you're really concerned, put one of your kids next to you because they're tiny and you won't have to harass yourself with what's the person next to me thinking, and you can get comfy.

A vacation CAN BE an excellent diet aid. LOTS of walking and sightseeing. Swimming. Not to mention getting a tan (unless you're a poor Irish girl who goes from Casper to Lobster back to Casper :-( ) so that you look fab when you return home and continue your healthy ways. :-)

Thanks everyone,

I am going for it! I'm going to shop for a swimming suit, buy some capri pants and get my lips sewed shut for 3 months! All your advice and support has been really wonderful. I truly love it here!!

Thank you, thank you, thank you!
