I got a problem!

Good morning!
Here's the wonderful thing: My family (me, hubby & 2 kids) have been invited to go on a Florida vacation for 10 days with some friends at the end of May. My husband and kids are so excited! The terrible thing: I don't want to go. I don't want to put on a bathing suit or shorts...etc. I weigh 285 lbs., how can I lose enough weight by then even to be assured that I'll fit in a damn airplane seat!
I don't want to hold my family back from enjoying their lives, but this situation really drives home the fact that I am! Got any advice?
Thanks:)
Faith

If you are going to Oahu - Honolulu -- make arrangements to climb Diamond Head. It is a nice hike a bit challengn but the view is amazing. I did that at 185 not in shap pounds. Also, snorkeling is great. Wear a t-shirt or you back will burn you float around, weightless and get total absorbed in what you are seeing. Pear Harbor is great & a lot of walking around ditto to Sea Life park. Just bring water & sunscreen with you & you will be fine.
Have a great trip. If you have space in you suitcase, I fold up nicely.

Well, that's only two months. And you could, typically, lose 40 lbs in two months at that weight if you ate 1,500 calories a day and went for a couple 15 minute walks each day. Maybe, probably, but people vary. I think you're really asking the WRONG question though. The question behind the question seems to be more of "how can I feel comfortable being the person I am in May." And for that one, you just have to look within yourself.
If you want to lose weight, do it to be healthy and not some crash diet for a May trip to Florida. And if you want to enjoy the Florida sunshine with your family in May, then just do it whatever size you happen to be then. If you don't want to enjoy the Florida sunshine with your family in May, then there isn't any real reason to hold them back at all (is there?). Stay home, if you want, and they can go if they want. Their fun, or your decision to stay or go, shouldn't be dependent on your size.
Do what you want to do. I'm sure there are some people in Florida even heavier than you are. And they manage, probably, to live there day-in-day-out. Whatever you do, enjoy yourself.

Anyways, Faith-
You should definitely go, and concentrate on having fun, like I know you will. I lived in Florida all my life, until a year and a half ago. I've always been overweight, and I will tell you that you'll see people bigger than yourself wearing less. ;) At different times I've had varying amounts of confidence, despite my size... My friends have always been smaller than I have, and I've just made a point to have fun regardless. You're there to spend time with your family anyways, so focus your attention on them not the crazy strangers. :)
That said, in the meantime, KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK!! :)
Good luck and have fun,
-Tina
