Back Again and Starting Over

It's been a long time since I've posted to this board. I'm coming back to say that I'm starting over. I want so desperately to lose the weight I need to lose. Right now I'm at 316 (confirmed by a doctor's appointment yesterday) and I'm so, so unhappy. I've been thinking lately about the possibility of a low-carb type diet and would like to know how to start . . . this coming from a meat and POTATOES kind of gal. Any suggestions, advise, encouragement would be more than welcome.

Thank you.

Hi Shannon

I am "new" again, so I know how you feel. My advise is to pick a plan you can life with long term. Loosing weight (especially the large amount I need to) will take quite a bit of time. Expect to slip up. Most of us do. Take one day at a time & remember to enjoy life now. Do not put things off until you are at your goal.

Be well

Shannon, did you ask your doctor yesterday about what kind of diet you should be going on? That's really the place to start. The low carb diet may not be the way to go for you, considering the amount of weight involved and the fact that Atkins type diets tend to be higher in fat (which could be dangerous). Do what you want to do, but I should think the place to start would be to ASK your doctor what's best in your particular case. Good luck.If you didn't get those answers yesterday at your doctor's appointment, I'd give him/her a call back.

Shannon ~ welcome to our community. So happy to have you here. Deciding on a plan/way of life is almost as difficult as execution. Just a couple things I've learned since being on this board....don't think about all the weight you have to lose ~ make little 5-10lb goals for yourself and reach those. Soon they'll stack up! Secondly, yes, don't let your life stop b/c of this. Relish the changes your body is going thru even with a few lb loss. I am on Atkins, so let me know if I can help you in any way. Also, remember you are not a super hero...if you fall off your plan, it's okay, we'll help you get back on...it's normal and we all do it. Congrats on making the first step.
