How much water are you retaining? Are you on the birth control pill? I'd discuss this with your doctor. If you are suffering extreme edema and are hypertensive, he or she might start you on a medication like hydrochlorothyazide (HCTZ--lowers blood pressure + contains a diuretic). The doctor might also suggest Yasmin, a BCP associated with reduced water retention during the menstrual cycle.
I do agree with everyone about watching your water and salt intake. If they are not balanced properly, you can retain water, especially around AF.
I suggest to make sure you are drinking plenty of water, watch your salt (if you start to retain noticibly after eating food with a lot of salt, then cut back on those foods), also try drinking green tea. Green tea is a lot more bitter than traditional black or orange tea, but it has a lot of antioxidants that help get rid of waste (excess water, etc.) in your body. I drink the decaf. green tea, and it is not as bitter. A friend recommended trying it before and during AF to me, and I feel that it has helped me a lot. So now I drink at least one cup a day, usually in the morning.

Don't worry about the water retention. What is what is good about LAWL & getting weighed 3 times a week. Your next weigh in will be back to normal. Stick with your plan & you will be fine.

If you like asparagus eat some of that. It is a natural diuretic. Caffeine is also a mild diuretic.

just keep in mind - green tea will cause many extra visits to the ladies room. ;) It took me a while to figure that out. I though there wase something wrong with me.
