Hi, I'm Stacey and new to ivillage. I recently enrolled in a "medically supervised" diet after being denied baritric surgery. So now I am basically starving at 500 cals a day. Losing weight but losing hope too. I am hungry all of the time. Any suggestions

Hi Stacey and welcome to the board. I agree with some of these gals about getting a 2nd opinion. I have over 100 lbs to lose and can't imagine doing what you're doing. Although, the liquid diet would make sense about the 500 cals/day. Even though I couldn't do it. I feel liquid diets don't teach someone how to eat and the correct way to eat once you get off the liquid. I will proclaim just like everyone else...I AM NOT A DIETICIAN OR NUTRITIONALIST OR DOCTOR! That's just so nobody yells at me for posting my opinion! Finally, I'd say get a 2nd opinion and do what your body is telling you is right. Good luck to you and keep us posted.

Hi Stacey,

I too am new here but unfortunately not new to trying to lose weight. This time I thought I'd do something different. I always did a diet where the lbs would come off quickly, but eventually I'd feel either sickly or deprived not to mention bad-tempered. Anyway I am now eating 1500 calories a day. This is my 4th week and am down 81/2 lbs. This week's loss was 21/2 lbs, I was especially pleased with that because I thought I was eating way too much and was afraid I wouldn't lose anything.

With 1500 cals, I am eating the same meals as my husband (who can eat anything and does!), but of course my portions are smaller. I'm not constantly saying "I can't have this and I can't have that". So far not feeling deprived at all. I'm hoping that 1500 cals. will continue to be effective but if not I'll just have to fine tune it some.

Totally opposite ways of approaching the same problem. I hope I added somthing to the discussion and good luck with whatever you decide to do!

Hey no problem, I am finding that I cannot stay on 500 cals a day. They allow you to have more but it has to be the company's products. To get the fastest results you do have to be at 500 cals a day. Which is virtually impossible for me.

Thanks for your response

Best suggestion, talk to the doctor who put you on it and let him/her know how you're feeling about it. Maybe the doctor can make changes that you'd like better.

Stacey,

It makes total sense that you wouldn't want to quit because you had money invested in it. I have to tell you; I'm the same way. I did quit, though. I had my physical, lots of product, a psychology evaluation, a couple group sessions, an orientation session, a couple of doctor visits, and so on. After being on the program, I realized that it wasn't healthy, and like you, I couldn't stay on it. I'd recommend a good eating and exercise program. There are many out there. I happen to love Weight Watchers and I started looking into the Body for Life program. I find it quite interesting. We're here for you! Let me know if you need anything. Oh, and another way you can think about it is that if you quit, you won't have to pay other sessions and for more product...unless you prepaid for them?? I'm not sure. If you don't feel well on the program, don't do it. It's really up to you.
