What eating plan is everyone on?
| Mon, 03-15-2004 - 7:49pm |
Hey! I just wanted to get a feel for what food plan (WW, Atkins, private dietician, food pyramid, low-cal, low-fat) everyone was on. I know that some of you have been successful on different plans. I'm interested to see what's working for everyone, so maybe it will work for me.
Thanks!

Welcome to the board BrookeLyn....I too am fairly new to this board as well.
I myself have done the Atkins plan and actually lost about 40 lbs in about 5 months

I am following Atkins (though not as strictly as I was at the beginning). I have been on plan for almost 7 months and I have lost 69 pounds.
The most important thing for you to do is to research any eating plan you intend to go on. A lot of people think atkins allows no carbs when in fact it does...just healthier carbs than what we're used to and fewer as well. And fruit is not banned from your life...I have oranges now (not at first...they're high in sugars) and make home-made strawberry "ice cream" (strawberries, milk or cream and splenda...yummy).
I guess I like it because once I broke the craving cycle I felt more in control. I choose what to put in my mouth...I control it, it doesn't control me. I do have an occasional "cheat" once in awhile but I really don't think of it as cheating because I am very aware of serving sizes and exactly how much I will allow myself. I have pretty good will power now somehow. I guess I just know how far I've come and I don't want to fail...lol.
Big hugs and good luck finding the plan that works for you!

I really haven't found anything that's quite right for me. The only thing I've found so far that I've been able to stick to even for short periods of time is using the WW points system, but I've never been able to stick to that for more than a couple weeks. Lately I've been looking into Change One (I think it'll help me learn to eat better) and Get with the Program (to help get rid of my emotional eating). I don't really want to use a structered "diet plan"/ "eating plan," but just a program/ book that will help me control my portions, eat fewer calories, cut down on fat consumption, etc.
What I'm looking for sounds like what you're doing. Have you used any book/resource?

WW is a good plan though.
I'm doing BFL, and foodwise that means I eat six small meals a day composed of equal portions of protein and carbohydrate, and keep my fat intake under 20 grams a day. They suggest portions about the size of your fist, but that wasn't exact enough for me so I count up values and make sure they match.
I also work out six times a week, and since I started journaling I haven't cheated or missed a gym date in four weeks! (This is week five.) I've lost 30 pounds since I started (4.3 weeks ago) and I have lots of energy. At first I stuck with the same meals until I got the hang of the system, and now I have fun finding new ways to fulfill my carb and protein requirements. I count my calories (mostly for fun, I don't usually worry about them when planning my meals) and found that most of my meals are around 200 - 250 calories a day on average. I also try to make sure that my carbs consist primarily of non-sugar. I discovered "carb aware" bread with 5 grams of prot and 7 grams of carb per slice, and it makes sandwiches a lot easier to match up!
