Water, water everywhere - question?

I'm going crazy with the water thing, because I'm running to the bathroom SO much. According to my calculations, I should actually be drinking 12-15 cups of water a day because of my current weight. I decided to try upping it gradually, so I'm probably about about 6-8 cups right now, and I seem to spend most of the day running to the bathroom. It is especially bad at night - even though I try to drink most of it early in the day, I'm still up FOUR - yes FOUR- times every night, and I think it is really starting to cut into the quality of my sleep. Does anyone else have this problem, or do I just have a freaky bladder? Is my body likely to adjust, or am I going to have to live with this? honestly, this is the only reason that I don't drink water normally - I don't mind the stuff, and I don't have to "force" myself to drink it, it's just getting old having my back teeth floating all the time.

Your body should adjust. If you haven't been drinking this much for a while (not sure how long...maybe a few weeks?) then give it some time. You're doing the right thing by adjusting up slowly. Also, new findings show that your water intake can also include water found in foods. There was a post on the Healthy Eating Board, check it out:

You also might try to taper off the drinking towards bedtime. Maybe try to get in all your water a few hours before bed. (Edited to say, Oooops, just saw that you said you did this)

It will get better,it may just take some time for your body to get used to it.I know when I start drinking more water then normally,I end up in the bathroom most of the day.

I usually drink 12 to 15 cups of water also. I do still use the restroom more, but my body has adjusted. I tend to drink a lot of water at night (4 to 6 cups) and I can usually sleep through the night now.

So, I think you'll probably get used to it.

I think I'm one of the few people on this board who doesn't buy into the idea that you have to drink lots of water to lose weight. The idea that you need at least 8-8oz. glasses of water every day (more if you're overweight) is really approaching urban legend status.

I've posted this link before, but here it is again. It's just food for thought:

http://www.snopes.com/toxins/water.htm.

I drink maybe 10 oz. of water a day, although sometimes at the gym I'll drink 20 oz. I have cranberry juice at breakfast, and pop with lunch and dinner, and that's about it for my fluid intake. I'm perfectly hydrated and losing weight just fine!

I really do let my thirst be my guide if I want to drink something. If I'm thirsty, I'll drink something. Sometimes it's a Caffeine Free Diet Coke, or a glass of skim milk, or a bottle of cranberry juice, but other times it's water. It really depends, but I'm just not convinced that I need to drink something when I'm not thirsty.

Your link didn't work for me. I'd like to check it out, but I firmly believe in the importance of water - not just for losing weight, but for the proper functioning of all the systems of the body. I find I'm less mentally alert if I don't have enough water, and of course I wonder how you can be sure you are properly hydrated. However, I'll keep an open mind, and I'm willing to look at research to the contrary.

I'm not convinced either way.

But, I can say for sure that my skin stays clear when I drink water slowly throughout the day.

My damaged right knee flexes better.

Without it, I bloat - especially during pms.

I already go to the bathroom about 10 times a day. Three years ago when I was drinking 80-100 oz. of water a day, I was going to the bathroom close to 15 or 20 times a day. I hated having to go before, during, and after each class, before and after I started a workout, etc. Don't get me started on having to get up in the middle of the night! LOL. And it didn't reduce bloating, didn't make my skin look any different, didn't help my mental acuity, and didn't help me lose weight any faster than I already was. What was the point? That's why I cut back and now drink *something* when I'm thirsty. Don't get me wrong, though--I'm not saying water is bad! To each her own, I suppose. It's just not something I think is ABSOLUTELY necessary for everyone in large quantities.
