Has anyone else tried hypnosis tapes?

I have to confess that I felt a little silly giving them a try, but I've been listening to a "series" of them for the last two weeks, and I think they actually ARE helping. At any rate, they certainly aren't doing any HARM, and it is nice to really relax and drift for half an hour a day. I was just wondering if anyone else had tried this and had any success. It seems to me that I'm having an easier time making good food choices and going ahead with my workout even when I don't really feel like it.

mom2morgan, Yes I use a hypnosis tape. I just have the one. I have a auto-repeat walkman and I listen to mine when I go to bed. I will fall asleep to it. While it plays through the night, my subconscience hears it as well as my "awake brain" I also find this very very helpful.

P.S. what series are you using?

Well, I sprung for the fairly expensive series by Provida Life Sciences. *blush* I originally saw it on a TV infomercial with "The Mommies" - do you remember them? Anyway, as much as I hate to admit buying ANYTHING off a tv infomercial, I have to say that I think they did a GREAT job! It is a progressive series of tapes that deal with different elements of diet and exercise, starting first with being aware of current pre-diet habits and how they affect the way you feel, and then building in strategies. The design, the voice, etc are all absolutely excellent. I have bought a couple of tapes in the past, one by a friend of mine who had gotten a degree in hypnosis, and I wasn't happy with them. First, there is the repetition of the same tape all the time - and second, they all had some annoying mannerisms. My friend, unfortunately, has the techniques all perfect, but a voice like fingernails on a chalkboard - NOT that great for helping me hit those beta brain waves, LOL

I have those tapes! I just didn't want to admit it. But they do seem to work. Like you said, if nothing else, they definitely relax you. I just find it hard to find time to do them every day so I'm not as consistent with them as I should be. I only have so much time in a day and I'd rather spend the time exercising if possible. But when I do have time, I enjoy them and they certainly can't hurt. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one who has tried them.

Mom2morgan, Yes I remember the mommies. I remember see that info commercial. I have bought a lot of stuff from info commercials and I admit it freely. I love the darn things. The way you discribe the series sounds a lot like the book I am reading but instead of it programming you through hypnosis you do "writing exercises" to come to the same conclusions. I feel bad that your friend has such a bad voice. The tape I listen to is called Weight Loss Guided Imagery from Health Journeys by Image Paths,Inc. I like her voice. its soft and not over bareing it also has music in the background that is very relaxing. On this tape Side A is Guided Imagery (hypnosis) and the other side is Affirmations.
