Aggravated with my stupid scale!!

Okay, I'm really trying to de-emphasize the actual "weight" and the numbers on the scale, but that said...it sure would be nice to at least count on it being accurate when I DO look. I have a fairly expensive scale - one of the digital ones. It does warn you to take two readings in a row, since accuracy can be affected if it is moved, bumped, etc ...so it sure would be nice if I could get the SAME two numbers in a row!! Here's what I got this morning, along with the emotional roller coaster that goes with it. Step on...296.5. Okay, that's all right, holding my own. Step on again - 298. Hmm...I better check a third time, just to see which number is correct...hope it's the first. Step on again - 302. Oh man, I better quit while I'm ahead, or I'm going to end up GAINING weight this morning! Okay, once more - step on...295. ARGH!! While it's tempting just to pick the lowest number :-) I'd rather have the truth! I've tried other digital scales and they all have the same problem. Does anyone else experience this? How do you determine your "real" weight?

I wish I could tell you something to make you feel better =/ I thought my scale sucked as it does the same thing...yet,mine isn't digital!Thats why when asked my starting weight I sometimes say it was 255 and sometimes 260,as it fluctuated between those two munbers for days.Maybe try looking up the brand or company and see if anyone else has had as many fluctuations as you do and maybe see if they can do anything.Wouldn't hurt to try.

Ugh. My digital scale did the same thing. I finally ditched it. It was terrible. It told me I weighed around 224 for about 6 months and I later found out it was off by 12 whole pounds! I was devastated when I found out I was 236. Of course I'd be happy to be 236 now!

Not to mention the day I stepped on it in the morning and it read 402. I almost got back into bed that day, thinking it was a sign.

I have a really nice but older fashioned one with a dial now. It's really easy to re-zero so I'm pretty sure it's accurate.

Just my 2 cents!

Mom2morgan, I have become a pro at digital scales. First a couple of questions:

1. Is your scale run by regular battery or lithium battery? If lithium battery how long have you had the scale? Lithiums are only good for 10 yrs. If less than that it should be warranted.

2. If run by regular battery, when was the last time it was change? Fluctuations like that can sometimes mean it doesn't have enough juice in the battery.

3. Do you have the scale on a hard surface or a rug/carpet? If on a rug/carpet take it off that.

4. Are you sure, if on a hard surface the surface is level? To check this push on each corner of scale if it teeters the slicest bit its not level.

5. Is the scale at least 12 inches from the wall? Some homes have a slit downward slope along walls.

6. Do you still have the instructions for the scale? If yes, read them over again carefully on the placement. Some digital scales have very specific placement requirements.

Hope these things help!

ROTFL!!! Sorry, I know it isn't really funny, but I was just trying to picture the day that you stepped on it and it shot up to 402. I definitely would have crawled back into bed and pulled the covers over my head! Stupid, mean, nasty scale!

I have a digital scale also and I have been getting weighed at the nutritionist who uses a Doctor scale and I have lost 10lbs in 2 weeks time. Anyway, this was on Wed. I decide to go on my scale just for kicks... Well, this stupid thing says I gained back the 10 lbs in 3 days!!!!!!!!! I am not even going to believe it, thats for sure. I have not cheated and have been walking too. Stick with one scale when weighing yourself because they are all different. I am only going to get weighed at one place, same scale!!!!

I have decided that scales are from Satan and are evil. Therefore they must be destroyed.

I will be having a scale bon fire in College Station. I'm sure the Aggies will grasp at a bon fire....oh bad bad karrie

I think "real" is in the eye of the beholder. Scales fluctuate. Is the floor completely level? Sometimes bathroom floors may be a little "off" because of tile or whatever. Also consider how high up the scale goes. If it's limit is too close to your weight then you may be getting inaccurate readings. And then too, how you stand on it can affect the reading. The only better way to get a "real" reading is one of the weights scales which doctors have. Digital is notorious for tempramental readings in many cases.
