not exactly on topic, but I bought myself a CZ a year ago for valentines and I thought I was worth a real rock, so I got one with tiny chips at Walmart for only $10 more than the CZ...looks great!

I don't have an engagement ring or a wedding ring. Not because Rob's cheap, but because I refuse to have them. I had rings with my first marriage that I ended up tossing in a fire, then later drowning it in a lake since it didn't melt like I'd wanted.

Rob used the money he had saved for my engagement ring to pay for my "last hurrah" trip as a single girl with 2 girlfriends. We drove from MI to NYC and stayed for 2 days, then drove and camped our way to MD and stayed with my aunt for 2 weeks. It was a WONDERFUL time for me, and him making it possible was an amazing gift to me.

My sister in law has a beautiful crystal ring that she loves as much as she would a diamond. I think it's all a matter of personal opinion.

a wedding ring is a symbol of your love that will last forever. when I chose mine it was the best quality we could afford at the time(small but good quality) since I will wear it for the rest of my life. therefore I a would not want a stone that I did not know it would last. sharla

I must confess, I never thought jewellery was all that important. My engagement ring is 'real' ruby and diamond chips, but really cheap. Quite an ugly ring actually - and *I'm* the one that insisted we go cheap. It has always disappointed me. For our 10th anniversary, DH got me a diamond anniversary ring with 9 larger and 26 smaller diamonds, totalling 1 carat. Really, it wasn't even *that* expensive as far as rings go, around $1000, but it is breathtakingly beautiful! The stones have that genuine "fire and ice" quality - you would not believe the colour they put out when the sunlight hits them...and I can stop staring at the darn thing 2 years later. It has truly become my most prized "material" possession. DH now wants to re-make and upgrade the original engagement ring when we have the money, and I ain't stopping him :-)

i think its all personal wishes the ring on my finger is one big emerald in the middle 5 smalls emeralds on each side in the band and 8 tiny diamond chips around the big one..... i always loved emeralds (my birthstone) we got it on clearnce for like 150 bucks... my first ring was a gold band but had a weird design to it i loved it but it got lost down the drain... lol... anyways to each their own i would perfer to spend money on something we need or go do something then wear something on my finger that might get lost or stolen

I agree, it's all a matter of personal choice.

I lost my 1/2 carat diamond out of my engagement ring and I didnt want to spend that money again and risk it so its filled with a CZ.

It's funny you mention that Rely...

When Joe and I got engaged we volunteered with our church youth group. One of the kids (who was also the younger brother of my best friend) always teased me by saying, "Gee that's a beautiful ring! You can't even tell it's cubic zirconia!" It's not...but I always told that kid that I wouldn't be mad if it was...I *would* be mad if Joe spent as much as he did on CZ...rofl.

To me, it's not the rock that determines how much he loves me, it's the fact that he offered it to me. :o) And when we went out looking he was checking out the solitaires and I was like NOOOOO! WAY too big...I worked outside as a land surveyor at the time and I would have been paranoid of losing it. He bought one that has 5 small diamonds and is low profile. there is a gold band on either side of the diamond band and it is just perfect for me. Just enough bling without being too showy. :o)

Of course, the bigger rocks are BEAUIFUL just not my style.

get an engagement band. they are somewhat smaller in the carrat area but look bigger. you also don't have to settle on prefect stones. Personally, one of my good friends is a jeweler so i have an in. WINK WINK
