OT- Rina's good news!

Earlier this year we were informed that my daughter has a reading disability and we shouldn't expect the same progress from her that the other children seem to have. We kept on doing what we'd been doing- flash cards and reading at home, encouraging as much as possible. In Feb. a child at school told Rina she had to go to special reading class because she's stupid. Rina came home that day in tears, and I had to explain to her that it only meant that she might have to work harder than the other kids might have to, but that she was just as smart.
My daughter brought a letter from her teacher home from school today. She's progressed SIX WHOLE LEVELS since February! She's on course with the rest of her class as of now, and is only going to extra reading group once a week instead of the daily classes she was having before. She's started reading EVERYTHING from street signs to the cereal box, and writing down every word she can remember. I am so proud of her, and of the fact that she took an obstacle and beat it rather than using it as an excuse not to read, or being so discouraged she gave up. She's only 6 years old, but I have so much respect for her, and I am so proud of her that I had to share.
hugs to all!
