Lost and don't know which way to go?

So, I have made a plan to lose weight and exercise, but I am finding that I don't know what "diet" plan or program to follow or if I should just watch what I eat and the portion sizes etc.

As far as exercising, I have been saying every morning this week that I was going to get up early and just even do a 15 min workout - I even went out and bought a couple of DVD's - yoga, walk off the pounds.

HAVEN'T TOUCHED THEM!!!!

I come home at night and all I do is sit around and watch tv or go to sleep.

I tell myself that I should be up and exercising - but its just not happening.

Because I told myself that I wasn't going to eat any snacks for a while - I went out and bought a bunch of stuff - just in case I have a craving -- and I am eating it all.

I can talk the talk but I can't seem to walk the walk?

And advise?

Judy, I'm sorry you are having such a hard time. It is hard for me to say which plan you need to go on. I have done great on a low carb type diet, but others are doing well just cutting backor on weight watchers. I would suggest you go to the library and get several diet books and choose which one you know you can follow. Also, get rid of the snack food and replace it with healthy food you like. If it is in the house you will eat it. Trust me I have been there so many times. Good luck. I know you can do it. The first few days are the hardest but once you get a routine going things will get easier. sharla

Hi Judy,

Maybe you're just not ready yet? When you are, then you'll know it and (hopefully) you'll just do what you need to to get it done. If you think you are ready, then you take it one day at a time. Clean the junk food out, and take your meals choosing healthful foods one at a time. Same with exercise. There's nothing magical about it, really. It just takes starting and continuing.

Hi Judy and Welcome. I can understand what you are going through and agree with the rest of the posts. I personally am on Atkins since 2/11 and am still questioning if it's the correct program/plan for me. But until I decide, I'm still doing it. I think one of the important things to think about when deciding is your lifestyle (do you cook often, go out all the time etc) and just your general habits. Here on ivillage, there is a section called quizzes at the top of the page and there is one in there where you answer the questions about yourself and it suggests a plan that is best for you. You should try it. It has taken me so long before I decided to lose weight. Years as a matter of fact. Can't exactly describe what happened but just woke up one morning and said it was time. Kinda like knowing when you're in love...ya just know. You can't force it either. If you do, you'll set yourself up to fail. So until then, maybe you should just make little changes ie: a few extra glasses of water, a few less snacks, and smaller portions. Hopefully that'll kickstart ya...Good luck to you and let me know if I can help in any way.

Hi Judy...

First of all welcome to the board!

My one main suggestion is to keep the unhealthy snacks out of your house. I find I am much less likely to indulge in an "off-plan" snack if I have to go to the store and buy it when I actually have the craving. I have time to think about it...I've actually gotten in my truck and started off for the store then turned around and come home because I come to my senses...lol.

Don't have unneccesary temptations in your house. That's what it comes down to. Easier said than done sometimes, I know.

Also, for now, until you find a plan try cutting out some of the proccessed foods in your life...eat whole grains, fruits and stuff that doesn't have all the chemicals in it. And drink WATER!!

Research some plans...find one you're excited about. I am doing atkins and it works for me. I have read the book and I think that is key to any "diet". You have to be educated and do it correctly otherwise it may be worse for you than the extra pounds.

So I meant for this to be encouraging and I hope it is...lol. You can do this...like Shawna said, you just have to be committed.

Big hugs and good luck!

Sarah
